It's been my understanding that Samsung Original ram is:

a. NOT marked as OEM and..
b. Has lifetime warranty.

But I could be wrong.

If that were true then newegg would not be marking their chips OEM.

The "D" is a newer model than the "C" if you dig into the details at the Samsung site. There is virtually no difference in the specification, so I suspect it is only that the D version is manufactured at a different site.

If you really have to know the difference, it can only be found on the table in the spec sheet titled "DDR SDRAM IDD spec table." Example the mA difference at IDD7A is 2680 on the C version and 2600 on the D version. I doubt that is enough to notice except for most severe overclockers. All slew rates, voltages, etc. are identical.

For the other Samsung ram on this website, it lists a lifetime warranty. but they dont list any warranty for these pc2700 512. But I hope it is original cuz its like 30 bucks cheaper then newegg.

I'll update the thread as soon as the memory comes in re: if it's original samsung or not. Seems as if all the research is pointing to yes.

I don't mean to sound stupid, but where are you guys getting the model numbers from Essential's site? The specs say TinyBGA, Samsung is TSOP.

Hmm...I picked up a 256MB stick of true Sammy from Essential a few weeks ago. I've been keepin an eye on a 512MB stick but Essential's prices have been jumpin around day to day. I originally saw the 512MB at $119, then yesterday it was down to $109 :Q I was gonna hold out a couple days to see if anyone got a true 512MB stick of Sammy and to see if there was any chance it might go down further. But now today, its UP to $125 ...aCk! Oh wells...don't need the 512 that bad, so I'm just gonna keep an eye on it to see where the price settles down at.

ps: If anyone does pick up a 512MB stick from Essential...could ya let us know if its true Sammy? TIA

These guys (Essence Computers) are certainly on top of things. According to tracking info, the RAM was on it's way to me via Fedex less than an hour after I ordered online!

This could be the newegg-alternative I've been seeking. I love newegg but since they're here in CA with me I get charged sales tax. This could be the start of a nice relationship.

True Samsung will have the Samsung name silkscreened onto the PBC. If the Samsung name isn't on the PCB itself it isn't true Samsung, it's just Samsung chips on a generic PCB. That might be good memory, but with generic PCBs you can't be entirely sure and it could be junk.
