What turned me away from Samsung was the fact that when Id found a model that I liked the sound of, a few sites said 12ms, some sites said 15ms including the Samsung official site. I checked the magazine that I got the idea from again... Ill find it to provide more info later... it mentioned the model name, the catalogue code for the website, response time and connections as far as I can remember. Checked the website of the magazine article which is from a reputable dealer in the UK from which Ive ordered. It mentioned it was VGA and not DVI which agreed with Samsungs website, it said it was 12ms which didnt agree with Samsungs website.... it left me all a little suspicious but despite that I decided to check Samsungs list of LCD's to find the one for me. Found the one I wanted, DVI, 17", 15ms response time.... now to find where I can buy it from. Ok, 15ms, VGA, 17" ~£250 Vs. 15ms, DVI, 17" £320.

I finally decided that ~£70 wasnt worth spending on DVI over VGA for the same specs. I ordered an LG Flatron L1710B and I havent looked back since. I couldnt be any more pleased with it. 17", 16ms, DVI and VGA... no dead pixels, no ghosting noticed so far. Only cost me £260 including next day delivery.

Just my 2 cents.

Got the dual 710T's today! Here's my quick thoughts:

outside/physical:

- no bad pixels on either panel
- very small footprint / depth. i could stack 5 or 6 of these deep on my desk.
- love the thin left/right bezel! it's thinner than the 2001fp's by about 1/16 of an inch. and being very dark they just disappear on my desk. was tired of the bright, huge bezels of my 955DF's.
- nice controls as far as tilt, slide up/down, rotate. i'll probably never use the rotate since i'm using duals.
- lots of tweaks in the menu; all the color & gamma type adjustments even work w/ the dvi input. but the cooool thing is the MagicTune application - controls the monitor through software, so you never have to touch the button again; works great. calibration works well; haven't tried the Natural Color screen/print color matching yet.

performance:

- minimal smear in Day of Defeat; pretty sure i can live with it... similar to the smear on my wife's 2001FP, maybe a little better. i'll measure the actual ms of the smear later on, if i can find that little LCD blur measuring application (seems i've lost it...)
- tearing kinda seems to be more noticable, but not really bothersome. i may turn on vsync, may not.
- very bright - turned down brightness to 42 (default was 80).
- full-page gradient does have little lines through it - banding of sorts - but it's not enough to be bothersome. i don't sit and look at full-page gradients all day long.
- pictures look excellent.
- text looks good w/ and w/o cleartype.
- DVI input is better than the analog concerning clarity - but not by much, maybe 10-15%?
- tons less reflection than CRTs (but i knew that already)
- my eyes are going to last 10 more years, easy! ...so much less eye strain.

that's it for now; off to try some more games!

Where did you buy it from and for how much? Also can you take some pictures of it please? I'd really like to see real pictures of the actual product thanks.

Jamin3d - I found a coupon for an additional 35 dollars off the already on sale monitor so the total came out to be 442 dollars w/ tax. Also is Dells return policy strict? In case i have a dead pixel on my monitor are they going to replace it? If its at the edges i suppose it doesn't matter but if its in the center i really can't stand it.

That's a picture of the 710N, its ok I guess, Newegg advertises the 710T that way but when you go to look at the pictures they get it right

Actually, it IS a picture of the 710T. Load up the two pictures from the 710N and the 710T, and you'll see the little letter after the "710" change. That's the only external difference you'll see anyways.
