From reading reviews and talking with friends who have this monitor, they see no motion blurring/ghosting at all. Well, I do, and i see quite a lot of it. I see it scrolling on the internet, or moving the mouse, and of course in games. I can do a normal mouse movement to turn, and everything turns blurry. It's almost like theres a motion blur setting on this monitor and its set to on. I have pictures I took, and wow does it look bad in counterstrike. There are basically two images on one. I should be able to get my friend to host the pictures soon. My videocard is one of the 6800 limited editions with a 6800gt flashed bios. It has 2 DVI connections and I use the adapter since this monitor is analog. It being analog shouldn't matter, since its only 17inches, and other people see no ghosting. I'm guessing this is either defective, or something is wrong with my videocard or the connections somehow. Maybe there is a setting im missing? I'm running it at 1280x1024 and have tried different brightnesses, contrasts, resolutions, and refresh rates...still the same.

Try the other DVI connector. It could be your getting some signal loss through the adapter. If your friends are hooked up straight to vga instead of using an adapter.

I get no video through the other connector on the videocard. Im 99% sure its because of the modded bios i have. I think theres a new one thats solved this though. I also tried a new adapter. Maybe ill flash it to the updated bios and see.

Make you sure you have a good adapter. The generic Radio Shack versions tend to degrade the signal.
SamSung 172n's shouldn't ghost much if at all and then only in intense gaming apps.

You might RMA for a replacement if it keeps happening after switching DVI connex and adapters.

712n*** . The adapters are the ones that came with the card...it came with two. I could try a new adapter, but first i want to try my 9800pro on this. It wont matter if this system doesnt have drivers for it will it? I should be able to tell just by using the mouse and internet...correct? Thanks for your fast help cause i really like this monitor except for the ghosting!

well...i guess this is a good time to use one of my 4 160gb hard drives from black friday. that way i wont have to reformat my main install. ill try the vga connector on the 9800pro and using the dvi adapter.

Why the hell would you reformat to install a driver?

cause id rather install my new hard drive and install windows on there so i dont have to uninstall nvidia drivers...clean them. then install ati ones. uninstall them. clean them. And i have to reinstall ut2k4 when i would have to do that. or else the textures disappear every few seconds. it was just a lot easier to me to just install on a seperate hard drive so i wouldnt fubar my current install.

and viper..yes i calibrated it. i messed with every setting possible.

i just called best buy and they dont have this monitor in stock ANYWHERE....since it was a black friday item. oh well...ill just have to wait a week

wonderful...got the other monitor i ordered today...and it still ghosts (not as much) whenever i move side by side. this is pathetic. ive lost hope in samsung....unless i have a million lazy ass pixels and they get unlazy...this monitor is going back and im not switching to lcd until fricken like 2ms response time...this is just CRAP. i mean....i might as well close my eyes when i move my mouse

the issue may not be with the monitor but your expectations of an LCD..

no hard core gamer should EVER use an LCD monitor.. they were never designed for that application.

even the best 12ms LCD's can't come close to the aprox .30ms response of CRTs. This descrepency is what accounts for, what is often referred to as ghosting. The delay between the pixels changing thier color state, and thus producing a ghost like effect.

Sounds like you have a faster PC than your friends.
Slow PC doesn't have enough juice to create ghosting effects on games like Doom3.

i can see it with the mouse though...so hardware isnt an issue bigpow.

drcool...this isnt mild ghosting...but ghosting that compares to monitors with more than 25ms response. my friends 18incher thats 2+ years old doesnt even ghost as much. GRRR

It's better to get one with DVI connection over analog. The 710T is a good model. I got the 172W and don't notice the type of ghosting you say your getting. Monitor specs says it's just a 25ms one.
TAke your monitor to your friends house and hook it up to his. If your problemsw go away then it isn't the monitor maybe video card.

i have two of them....same thing. my friends do not have this problem where the mouse has a big long streak. also...when i use the scroller on my mouse and use the setting where it can go at a constant speed, all the text is blurry...doesnt happen with my friends who have this. BAH this has to be a bios setting or something. ill try getting new eyeballs tomorrow to see if thats the problem...lol

All LCD monitors have ghosting. People either need their eyes checked or don't want to see it.

I have a 712N, it ghosts. I've seen many other monitors that people claim "don't ghost." They all ghost. People who say they don't get any ghosting don't know their monitors very well.

The true definition of ghosting is the blurriness caused by electrical interference with the wire (rather than the popular definition of ghosting caused by high response times-the result of these two causes can sometimes be indistinguishable to non-experts), so get a a good quality connection. I bet there is some wierd interference coming from the adapter from DVI to VGI. Some monitors amplify small interference noticably and this monitor may be one of them.

I'm sure the problem is your connection, but you may not be able to do anything about it because you have DVI vid card and an VGI (analogue) monitor.
