Samsung 740U Notebook - Won't Boot up after Windows 10 Install. Power come on, but the screen is blank. Help!

Give us a little more info. Don't go all the way back to childhood but start at why you upgraded, who upgraded the machine, and how they/you proceeded. Were there any issues that came up ? Has the machine booted into 10 at all ?

When a notebook upgrade fails, it often relates to drivers. Please cite more details on how you went about the upgrade. Did you do a clean install? If so, that is the likely problem occurring when the laptop's drivers do not get installed.

I had Windows 8 on the Samsung Notebook. Microsoft was offering free upgrade to Windows 10. I downloaded the free upgrade from Microsoft online. It took very long to download, maybe 2 /12 or 3 hours. But at the end it said that it was successfully downloaded etc. I turned off the notebook. The next morning, the notebook would power on, but there was nothing on the screen. This all happened maybe 6 months ago.

I had a laptop that had "switchable graphics", when I installed Windows 10 it booted up fine (Windows logo while loading the OS) but then went to a black screen instead of allowing me to login to the desktop. I had to disable in the BIOS the switchable graphics setting, then it was good afterward.

Anecdotal, but thought I would mention it since the symptoms you're experiencing are so similar.

When you say "downloaded", do you actually mean "downloaded" or "installed"?

If you turned it off during the installation phase, it could easily lead to no-boot scenarios.

LIke Larry notes, I can't tell if what you initiated was a download of the install file, like downloading a txt or mp3 file, and that file is now sitting in a download folder OR the download was an install which was described as an place upgrade. It would appear to have been the latter, i.e., not just a file download but an install of Windows 10. Please clarify.

Yes Windows 10 was installed on my notebook. Then I turned the notebook off. The next morning I powered the notebook on and I got nothing on the screen.

Do you get the BIOS splash screen when you turn it on? That's the screen that pops up before Windows starts loading.

As mentioned. its likely a simple problem to fix but very difficult for remote assistance when we are unfamiliar with the notebook set up. There are screen brightness level adjustments which may help but one has to be able to see the desktop to apply them. Depressing F2 several times when the power is switched on will bring up the bios screen but with no display not sure that would help.

Do you have a monitor you can plug the laptop into to see if you're getting any image from it?
