Hey for anyone who has a Samsung 830(non raid) how has it worked for you thus far? I had a corsair performace 3 but kept having freezing issues every 90 days. Sent the drive back and got a Corsair Gt. Right now it doesn't happen all the time but the drive freezes for about 5 seconds. Things ive done

1) Lpm fix
2) Set to achi
3) Rst latest driver installed

Specs
asus p8p67 deluxe, 2600k
16 gigs ram
Evga 4600
not overclocked.

Anyway i wanted to know if you had to do anything extra to install your 830 ie lpm fix, setting the port to hot swap etc etc
I am trying to decide between the M4 and 830. I was looking at the Corsair performace pro but i may stay away from Corsair ssd for a while

Set your SATA ports to Hotswap for the HDDs only. That should take care of your freezing issues.

If you decide to sell your Corsair SSD, LMK. I would be interested in buying it.

Samsung has an intel-like reputation for quality, but as we saw earlier this year even intel can suffer a snafu when coming out with a new ssd. The 830 looks to be an excellent drive. The crucial m4, otoh, has been out for a while, offers similar/slightly better performance, and has better reviews than any 2011 drive other than an intel elm crest. Personally, I'd get the m4 if I were buying today.

I've had the 128GB 830 for about a month also and I have been very happy with mine. I have not had to do any tweaks or hacks to ensure total stability other than what is common place already (latest UEFI, chipset, RST, AHCI).

My CPU is an i3-2130 and my board an Asus P8Z68-V LX. My UEFI defaults were hotswapping disabled on all ports. As I have no inclination for removing drives whilst powered up, I have left them all on disabled. Don't know if this is any use to you.

Hot swap is disabled but i'm going to enable it for the port that has the hard drive and see how that goes.

I was reading about Samsung on Wikipedia and I knew they were big, but they're absolutely huge. If you look at total assets, net income and number of staff, they dwarf Intel. Apple make more money but is there a larger technology company in the world in terms of scale and infrastructure?

Apple just make more profit (for now at least), not more income.

I wish Samsung would buy AMD (it would be a drop in the ocean for them), as they could make AMD much more competitive, by virtue of having the ability to spend more on R&D, and having their own fabrication facilities (which AMD unfortunately had to spin off).

If they bought ARM as well they would rule the world. Perhaps that one isn't the best idea for the rest of us.

Probably not, but just search for huawei in 5 to 10 years from now

Hopefully this isn't off topic but with Samsung selling their hard drive division to Seagate do you think that will effect the 830 ssd reliability?(as far as firmware)

No way, they are the OEM supplier for Apple/Dell/etc ssd's. They're just refocusing their energy in a growing market instead of a stagnant one.

Im still playing with the Gt but i may wind up getting the Samsung 830. I like the idea of a toolbox to help restore performance along with trim. The Gt i had seem to have low write before I secure erased it. I work with more video file and music. I was looking at the Corsair Performace Pro but i might stay away from Corsair ssd for a while.

I'm suprised you had issues with the Performance 3 as this was a Marvell drive. The GT is a Sandforce.

Either way, none of the Corsair's or Crucial's will come with a toolbox utility.

I did run my Samsung toolbox TRIM utility the other day and despite my system having native TRIM support, my random write increased from ~17k IPOS to ~32k IOPS. Seq read and write, and random read all stayed the same.

The Performance 3 was great until every 90 days. If it wasn't for that I would still have the drive. No install problems at all. Now mind you I didn't have the info that I have now as far as lpm fixes etc etc. There were several other people who had the same problem so I'm guessing it wasn't just me. Either way I'm going to get a new ssd.

LMK if you're going to sell the GT.

Hey Burner27. If it freezes again I'm going to send it back to Corsair. Ive had it for a little over 30 days so its still under warranty. If they don't replace it with a Performance Pro and send another Gt I will let you know.

LMK= Let me know

Sounds good. Has it frozen again? Did you enable hot-swap for that drive?

Hey for those with the Samsung 830 how do you have it set up? Obviously ahci but are you using Intel rst driver or Microsofts drivers? (no one with the 830 had to do the lpm fix nor had to enable hot swap?)

Yes i did a fresh install hot swap is enabled. So far its only frozen once.

Hrmmm. If it froze again, can you see if you have C3 and C6 reporting set to enabled in your BIOS? If they are enabled, please disable them as well.
