Samsung 840 EV0 in RAID 0 big performance increase?

Hi,

I have a Samsung 840 EVO 500 gb. Would I get a performance increase if I added a second one in RAID 0? They're on sale this memorial day. I have a Z97 and I read Intel supports TRIM for SSDs in a RAID now. I read different forums where some people say it's worth it and other people say it's not. I already have 2 x 3 GB WDs in RAID 0. Thanks.

It depends on what you need.

The sequential read / write speed will be >1GB/s for 2 840 Evo in RAID 0. If you constantly deal with very large file movement. You may benefit from it and save almost 50% of time.

However, I don't think you can feel any difference in daily use.

My thread is one of the top thread in the Memory and Storage forum specifically about your question and you just ignored it?

Heartbroken!

On topic:
2 in RAID 0 would give you more or less a 100% increase in reads and writes. However, if you would actually make use of the increased throughput is anyone's guess.

Is this just for gaming? If it is then you might be better off saving your cash. The benchmark performance will skyrocket, but the real world gains for general gaming and office tasks is low.

yeah that's what I noticed, although, if you care to read my thread and benchmarks, the 4K speeds sucked ass compared to RAPID. So thus, I concluded these drives are better off in RAPID than RAID

That's what the Samsung rep told me when I called them but I never believe him

Also, you cannot use Samsung Magician in RAID it will not detect the RAID volume as Samsung SSDs, so you lose the ability to upgrade your firmware and do their OS optimizations.

It's a huge fail IMO
