So I pre-ordered the 500GB Evo from Newegg and the site said it'd be available on the 14th, but then on the 14th it said out of stock with an ETA of the 19th (today). But now it's out of stock again. I can't tell if there are just that many pre-orders or if Newegg isn't actually being supplied any units so they keep bumping the ETA out.

I have no clue when they'll actually get any in stock, which sucks since it's the last component I'm waiting for do to my build.

I think Samsung hasn't shipped them out yet. This seems to apply to the 500GB and the 1TB.

Ordered the 750gb for £379 at dabs. I wanted the 1tb but it worked out to be £100 more expensive. I'm going to ditch one of my 64gb M4's and give to my brother.

Sweet, I finally can consolidate all my games onto one drive. Should be here tomorrow..

look like nice drives, at reasonable prices! May buy one of these to augment my M4 as it fills

Not everybody is a gamer. I think most non-gaming people have several hundred GB of personal photos, vacation movies and that sort of things. They definitely need space, but for those people a 1 TB EVO would make no sense, just stick to a WD Green or similar. However, this group of people tend to rely on laptops, and you have a hard time using multiple drives in those, so a large SSD is the way to go if you can afford it and do not want the hassle of external HDDs.

Personally I want as large SSD as possible for professional reasons. I move ~1 TB a day, and I know that sticking my files on an SSD makes my postprocessing 3 times faster, so there is some real productivity gains to be made in my case.

Would you believe I never filled any HDD over 200GB of data. Long story there, but I am shocked at how many GB's some of you guys can fill up here.

200GBs is a fair music collection, <20 games, and basically no photos and videos. It's easy to fill up more space, with videos at up to 5GB/hr, 2MB+/ea. photos, 300+MB/disc CDs (I average just over 360MB/disc), 5-40GB games, OSes, and so on.

You're not going to use up 200GB with email and office documents, even with XML-based formats.

Got a 750GB model set for delivery today. Can't wait to ditch the spinners in my gaming rig.

IMHO once you've used a ssd you won't want a spinner and the prices keep falling all the time as newer models hit the market.

One of my best purchases tech wise ever.

I got a 830Pro for my 2008 Macbook (already up the ram to 4GB) It makes it much faster and I'll never get a laptop without an SSD.

Got my Evo 750GB installed. Finally manned up and stuck Windows 8 on my other drive. I kind of like it.

I'm using the Evo purely as a games drive so I was slightly annoyed I've only got 698GB of free space. I've lost 52GB straight off the bat.

Oh well.

You didn't lose it. Windows reports it as 1024^3 per GB and drive makers report it as 1000^3 per GB.

750,000,000 / 1024^3 = 698.xx GB (as reported by Windows).

Thanks. I installed the update straight away. I like Magician. It's quite slick.

To be honest, a little disappointed with steam. Not sure what I expected. Maybe for it to be very snappy and I suppose it's a little faster than my Spinpoint F3 but the difference so far is negligible.

Not liking Windows 8. Trying to install Borderlands 2 and it's hung on Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistribution. Cancelling it does nothing. 3 games I've tried playing and none of them will start.

When 1TB SSDs are selling for 50 dollars then you will see them replacing 1TB HDDs for 90% of the end user population.

The 10% power user will pay the 60cents a GB for fast I/O

I for one welcome the larger capacity ssd's and would like to replace all of my spinners with them.
