Wasn't planning on buying the 840 Pro, but I thought this price was pretty good, so I snagged one.

The last time i ordered something from their website, a couple of days later i got a call from my credit card company's fraud department saying that my card number was used in Seoul, Korea.

I hadn't used that particular credit card anywhere except at Rakuten's website a few days earlier. Needless to say i won't be ordering from them anymore.

Yep. I have been avoiding them like the plague. I especially don't like the disingenuous way their Rakuten points expire. Too bad, because this is a great deal.

Too bad Rakuten is playing passive on this issue considering CC use is the heart of online businesses. I had some fraudulent CC used last month and this issue with Rakuten is probably the source of that fraudulent CC charges. From hereon, it's bye bye for Rakuten as far as I am concern.

Yes, it is a strange name but it's the name of the Japanese company that bought out buy.com. It looks like they are trying to take over the interweb.

If there's CC fraud i should use paypal? the CC company calls me whenever they think there's fraud and doesn't even think about not reimbursing me, while paypal is about the worst company on the planet. If there's any chance of fishy business I'd much prefer to generate 1 time number with a spending cap than use paypal

Was fine until recently and had limited CC purchases and then started seeing weird charges show up again after I bought the SSD as a gift to my parents.

I already had the card replaced. The charges weren't directly related. There's no way they can trace where the number got stolen from, only that I confirm that I wasn't suddenly in PA from CA 3 hours later on the same day buying gas and flowers after having eaten lunch at work that day.

I got call from credit card company about suspicious application I didn't make.

They told me to call credit score company (transunion* and other two, forgot names) and request 90 day credit fraud alert (it is supposed to be free, and whichever credit score company you call is supposed to alert other two). I read also that you are supposed to be able to get free credit report after requesting 90 day credit fraud alert.

And yes, I bought from Rakuten, and looks like fraudulent application showed up next day.

Will never, ever buy from that company again.
