is there any "client critical feature" or "typical everyday feature" that the 850 EVO lacks compare to the 850 PRO?

1. space is moot - only 12gb difference for the PRO
2. endurance is moot - will never run out of writes (client usage)
3. warranty is moot - will upgrade in 1-3 yrs. (software is constantly growing)
4. speed is moot - PRO is marginal faster overall. EVO is no slouch. (unless the saturated writebuffer specs is full of bs).
5. price - PRO is a solid $70 more.

PRO or EVO ??

I don't know if the PRO has been getting any deals lately, but the EVO sure has. I grabbed one 2 days ago on NewEgg for $135 and Amazon has been consistently under $150 for a couple of days now as well.

Same here in Sweden, they're getting ridiculously cheap. Wish I had waited, since I picked up one just a month ago for tens of € more. Might get a second one at this rate...

As for the Pro vs Evo, of course the Pro has better performance, endurance etc. due to MLC vs TLC flash. However there's no functional/feature difference between them.

what size EVO do you own?

can you guy vouch for the "saturated writecache" performance?

a video or screenshot would be nice.

The main advantages of the PRO are the things you discounted. You're paying more for the warranty, write endurance, and performance. If you don't need those things, go with the EVO.

+1

at a smaller size, the price difference would be less and so pro would be my preferred choice. at the next larger size of 1tb, the difference gets enough that you have to work to see if the differences are worth it.

Though seeing you muted all but price (evo about 25% cheaper?), then only price can be used to compare against.

Personally, I have been looking at a few drives given the current sales and there can be enough difference to effect end use.

Specifically looking at the mixed performance which is closer to a OS use / scratch disk than using the SSD as a games drive / storage.

The other one I have been looking at is the sandisk Ultra II, just for the large size given the lack of difference in most performance numbers (% numbers are nice but are pointless when looking at 25MB vs 35MB

The short of it as I count it, faster writing / and mixed use, reading not enough to care about.

Sandisk Ultra II if you are interested

$40 odd cheaper than the Evo, so nearly half the price of the Pro.

similar read or write, worse on the mixed vs Evo.

I don't have an EVO but I have a SanDisk Extreme Pro 240GB and it is noticeably over 2x as fast as the Ultra II 480GB for large data transfers (460MB/s vs 220MB/s). I thought the EVO was similar in speed to the Extreme Pro so although the Ultra II is cheaper, you (not surprisingly) get what you pay for. I do *notice* that what takes 50 secs on the Extreme Pro takes 110 secs on the Ultra II.
