samsung 850 freezing

So i have my samsung 850 evo SSD for about 3 days now.

System is a dell-prebuilt vostro 220.
E2200, 4gb of ram. win7 ulimate SP1 on 64bit.

Fresh install of win7 on this one. Very little programs installed right now. Since i'm still testing it.

So i did the optimize thing with samsung software, disabled sleep mode on the computer. I put it for max performance. I went on Microsoft's website and used there little app to disable hibernation. I found the script to disable that intel power management on all SATA drives.

Here is my problem best i can explain.... The SSD works well no issues or hangs when i'm on it. The monitor turns off 15 minutes of idle but the PC never does. Right around the 20-35minute mark the computer normally freezes. When it freezes, nothing responds. The clock freezes and the whole desktop does as well. The mouse point is able to move but nothing works or responds. CTRL/ALT/DEL doesnt work. The only way to cure this is manually hold the power button. Once rebooted no issues, samsung drivers are up to date and report no errors.

I cant for the life of me figure out what could be the cause. If i disable sleep, hibernation and intel power management then what the heck is going on. It seems like the SSD is going to sleep after 20-35min of idle and NEVER waking back up.

I feel its not a defective drive but a setting i'm overlooking. This is my first SSD ever so i dont know what to expect.

Seems like i have 2 errors

Ive had the computer off the yesterday, so i didn't do any idle testing.

I might return this if it does happen a few more times, not because of the freezing but because i dont think my computer is allowing me to take full advantage of the SSD. Which makes my gains very marginal.

I'm on the E2200 CPU and a board that max out at 4gb of ram. Still has USB 2.0 and SATA 3.0GB transfer rates. This PC is worth maybe $200 but for a backup PC this functions great with a standard 5400rpm spinny. I mainly use it for download stuff and i have some low damage games.

Your 2 errors are DHCP errors an unrelated to the SSD.

If the SSD is the fault you wont have an event logged.

Are you running the latest firmware on the SSD?

According to the Samsung magician software, I'm on the newest firmware.

I think it's due to the computer being that old. I'm sure there is a more technical term. This a old dell prebuilt vostro 220.

Before upgrading to the SSD did you had the same issues?
You could try installing Windows on a HDD and see if these hangs are still present.

You could try performing some memtests and monitor your CPU temperature.
I would also try upgrading the following:
- motherboard bios
- all components drivers

But from what you have described I would that is something related with computers sleep functionality. I clear that the computer is not being able to return from sleep state.
I recommend performing some tests with other components:
- change your ram memory
- change your video board
- change your hdd

Good luck

L.E: could you please expand in Event Viewer the following: Windows Logs > Application and see if you have some errors after your computer freezes ?

Will expand the event viewer shortly.

Prior to installing the SSD and new OS. My system was running perfectly fine, but on the sluggish side. I installed back my 5400rpm hdd and have no issues so far.

I realized now that I didn't install the Nvidia driver thru the site but windows did update a driver. I shall do that as well.

I don't have other parts to swap around, only thing I can do is remove a stick of ram. I did blow out the whole case when I installed the ssd. There was a ton of dust. I'm going to also use a different SATA cable.

Will report later on today.

Ok here it is... The one highlighted was around the time it froze.

That bluestack app is me emulating my Android phone on my desktop. The MS office stuff was right at bootup today... not sure whats the deal with that.

Check the security/encryption settings in Samsung Magican - see if you have Opal or HW encryption enabled!

Try installing the Intel RST and disable the power setting in it.

If it still doesn't fix the issue make sure you download all windows updates and maybe there is a BIOS update for your motherboard.

None of them seem be hardware related, maybe it's the OS or that particular application (I've used Bluestacks as well) which is throwing errors, causing (random?) SSD freeze.

Try sfc /scannow for system file repair.
There's also dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth (& /restorehealth) if you need them.

That's probably because the trusted installer is still accessing the file, just copy the file to desktop & open it.

Seems like dism is only available for Win8 or above, try this (CheckSUR) instead ~

Also use the latter (CheckSUR) option after a reboot not immediately after running sfc.

Maybe try disabling everything related to sleep. Let the computer sit there a long time to confirm it's trouble-free when it doesn't go to sleep but idles for a long time.

Then, turn on one setting for sleep. Wait and see if the problem occurs. Move on to the next setting. To be super-detailed, you could turn off the previous setting, before turning on the next setting. Test them all like this. Then combine different settings to see when you finally encounter the error. By learning which sleep setting triggers the error, can help diagnose it.

But I bet it's not your SSD causing the problem, but more of a software issue.
