Samsung 900nf -$395
Sony g400 - $452
iiyama VisionMaster Pro 451 - $570
I've heard great things about all three monitors, most of all the VisionMaster. I'd like to get the opinions of you guys as to which monitor you'd choose, and whether the price premium of the sony or iiyama are warranted. I haven't actually seen any of these monitors.

Samsung is just like the Iiyama with a 30% off price tag.

I've seen both the Sony and the VisionMaster. They are both absolutely exellent. Buy either one with complete confidence of getting your money's worth. I guess just get whichever of those two is cheaper.

if you can splurge, i'd go for the sony. its just the best 19in i've seen out there although the price drops it out of my budget and i have to look for something more value-oriented

Those specs in the link are not entirely correct for the Sony, ie. it's max. resolution and refresh are incorrect. And the dual monitor inputs are another thing to give credit for, only the Sony and the IBM P96 (OEM'd G400) offer this. On top of that, the Sony's color accuracy is unmatched. Of course that's my opinion, but I can sit here and actually compare a G400 to a DiamondTron (Iiyama) with DisplayMate ...

Also, if considering an Iiyama, compare the i90A not the VM Pro 451, as it's not an apples to apples comparison otherwise (the 451 has built-in USB hub + speakers that adds to it's price). The Samsung and the i90A are then nearly the same price, about $430-450, no way the Samsung is 30% (ie. $125) cheaper, clearly a misleading statement As well, that $385 price for the 900NF is an anomaly - most of the vendors listed on shopper.com are in the $420-450 price range for the monitor.

How can you say " Samsung is just like the Iiyama with a 30% off price tag." General statement like these are completely untrue and misleading. I'm convinced that you must work for Samsung or have a vested interest in Samsung products the way you hype them.

First I want to say yes, that statement was too general, but if you're trying to say that one is inferior to the other, you're obviously wrong. Just the same way people make anologies like "Tbird is just like the P3 with a 30% off price tag", isn't that true? And no I dont get paid by either companies.

The i90A and the Pro 451 are identical in spec and thus it should be thrown into the comparison, I dont see how an USB port and a pair of cheesy speakers justify the $100 or so extra cost, I dont want to sound like jackass but that Pro451 is a rip off, and you lose BNC support. Plus the i90A is only available from Iiyama which will cost you $480, compare to the $390 you find for the Samsung, it's still a long way before Iiyama can compare to Samsung in price.

The 900NF is(actually more than) 30% off of the Pro451!

Well, I love my black IBM P96 and since it's a rebadged Sony G400 I'd say go with the Sony. It's too bad the Sony monitors don't come in black. I needed something to match my Antec SX1030B case.

Another vote for the Samsung 900NF. Excellent performance for the price.

The IBM P96 is not a rebadged Sony, it's just a monitor with FD Trinitron tube, other than the tube everything is made by IBM.

Well I got that from Midnight Rambler's post, so I'm sorry if I was wrong.

I doubt that they're OEM'ed, IBM make monitors based on FD Trinitron tubes just like KDS and CTX do.

Personally i like the DiamondTron tubes better than the Trinitron tubes. Trinitrons seem to have a worse moire effect and fuzzy text IMHO.

It's probably only the Dell monitors that are OEM'ed, e.g. Dell Ultrascan P991.
soulm4tter: maybe it was the video card that was causing that. I have no problems on my Geforce 2 GTS card(after doing the rf filter mod) on my FD Trinitron monitor.

Yea Im pretty sure the Dells are OEM'ed, even the case look similar. The IBMs though, since they sell them independently(unlike Dell which only bundles them with their PCs), I assume that the monitors are manufacturered by themselves.

I'm not the one implying one product is better than the other you are by your general statements. Have you done a side by side comparison of these two products? Until you do how can you say one is better than the other? Have you taken both units apart and did an analysis of the construction, components and connectors, solder quality, etc. I can go on. I guess you have reviewed every monitor Samsung produces.

I have no problem with your explanation of the facts as far as the specifications go and if you had put this analysis in your original post I would not have said anything. I have no interest in Iiyama products, in fact I sell Samsung products but I will defend any manufacturer from general hype.
