question of the day:

does it do 1600x1200 res at at least 85hz?

so many opinions saying it does or it doesn't. i really need to know now because i will be ordering a monitor in the next 2 weeks. also, when did you buy yours and from who? i would like to know if the reason it can't is because the specs were changed over time. thanks...

Specs never changed from what I know. I know that it does do 1600x1200 at 89Hz max. at that resolution. I know this for sure because I've had the monitor for a year and a half.

I know mine does 85Hz, but the specs do appear to have changed. The website now says a max of 76Hz. I don't know why they would change.

This item caught my attention, and yes the specs appear to have changed. The 900NF used to have a 110Khz horizontal scan frequency, making it capable of 1600 x 1200 at 85Hz. The specs on the Samsung site now shot it has only a 96Khz horizontal scan frequency, making it cable of 1600 x 1200 at 75Hz max.

It also appears the new unit is smaller in size than the older one.

Also, this may simply be a typo on the web page.

And yes specs do change, quite often in fact, however the general public often never knows.

I can think of two reasons why a manufacturer would change specs. 1. Higher than normal failure rates. 2. The ?Brand name? company changes the OEM manufacturer they use for a particular model. This is very common in the industry.

<< If the official specs say that it can't do it why don't you believe it? >>

Three reasons, first is price, if the specs changed this would be an expensive model compare to other 96Khz 19? monitors. Second the specs in the online user guide contradict the online specs. Besides I never believe everything I read especially on the Internet.

Because specs are often very conservative. This is why overclocking works. My monitor is capable of running 1024x768x32@100Hz. Not officially, but I have done it. I decided to take it back to it's specified 85Hz to prolong it's life. Also, I can't tell the difference. My monitor is the one things I rarely upgrade. It want to get a good 5 years out of it if possible. Maybe more.

Just change the refresh rate from the Display properties page or use a 3rd party program like Powerstrip. Do this at your own risk though.

My friend in linux set his monitor to like 120hz at 1024 by 768 and it literally blew up.

And yes, I have a 900NF and it can do 1600 by 1200 at 85, but I cant read text at that res

I think most modern monitors nowadays are equipped with a fail-safe thingie that automatically shuts-off the unit when you try to use higher than spec refresh rates for a particular resolution in Windows. Why don't you try to use Powerstrip or any other 3rd party software?
