Samsung 931bw or 940bw

So i've been browsing black friday ads, and I've narrowed it basically down to these two.

Bestbuy has the 931bw for $129.99 out the door.

Staples has the 940bw for $129.99 after $80 easy rebate.

I'm not a fan of the weird chrome-looking things on the 931bw, but if that's the only difference, I'd go for it because theres no rebate to mess with. However, it seems thats not the only difference. It doesn't make sense to me why the smaller model number has a better response time (2ms on the 931bw vs 4ms on the 940bw) and a better contrast ratio (2000:1 on the 931 and 500:1 on the 940). It seems fishy to me, and I was just wondering if maybe they changed how they rate their monitors drastically between these two models.

Does anyone have any personal experience with both/either? I really don't know which to go for. Bestbuy doesnt seem to have the 931bw in store, it's only a black friday exclusive item it seems.

They're talking about the "c" version though, the "bw" are widescreens...shouldn't they use completely different panels then (thus invalidating comparisons of the 'c' models)?

The 2000:1 CR shown for the 931BW is the dynamic contrast ratio. The number you want is the static contrast ratio, which appears to be 700:1.

Judging solely by the specs for the 931BW and the 940BW, I think I'd have to go with the 931BW. The 940BW shows 500:1 CR with 4ms response time, while the 931BW shows 700:1 CR with 2ms response time. All the other things seems to be about equal.

FYI, the monitor at Staples is a 920BW . . . It appears Staples and Best Buy are playing games so we can't possibly "pre-purchase" and return/rebuy during BF. Right now, the 931 is not available for purchase at BB, nor is the 920 at Staples.

Are you sure? I thought it said 940...so what's different about the 920?

EDIT: I just checked, and you're right...it's the 920. However, it specs out the same as the 940. Did they just label it with a different number?

I went to bestbuy to get a cheap stick of ddr2 ram to hold me over till I find a good deal on memory since my core 2 system will be complete by tomorrow and I saw the 931BWs. There was no display and no tag anywhere so I'm not sure if some of the warehouse guys took them off the truck without thinking and just put them right on the shelf but there were about 30 of them and plenty more up on top stock.


I bought two and my mom will be showing up around 11:30 on day after thanksgiving to get the pricematch guarentee. I'll probably open them up to make sure there are no dead pixels before black friday in case I need to exchange them.

Someone can correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe the Balck Friday ad says on it in huge font that the price match policy does not apply to anything inside that ad.

Yah you guys are right you can't pricematch normally. I called down and OKd it with my manager for this one time, but it will not work for everyone. Sorry for the misinformation.

Get the 931BW. It should have more vibrant colors than the 940BW (MagicBright3 vs MagicBright2).

does anyone has 920bw? , westinghouse comes with a one year warrenty not the 3 year warrenty, LCM-22W2.
Officedepot has Samsung SyncMaster 203B Black 20" LCD Monitor this moniter also for $179.99, isn't that better than westinghouse.

So I've been looking at the ads also and was looking at the Samsung 931BW 19"WS from Bestbuy and the Westinghouse 22" LCM-22W2. I didn't know about the staples one until I saw this message board and post. I'm a video gamer and I watch movies on my computer quite often, so I was going to go with the Samsung 931BW one since it has a faster refresh rate(2ms) compared to the others and better contrast ratio(2000:1). But I'm not an expert on moniters at all, so I'm glad I found this thread.
What do you guys suggest if I plan on using it for video games and movies?

And if you really want to know something sad, I'm upgrading from a 15" CRT that's older than most middle school kids.
