Damn, wish I got mine from buy.com instead of the gateway accessory store. The Gateway store won't pay return shipping even if the item is defective. Buy.com pays for return shipping! I also had to pay tax from the Gateway store, but no tax from buy.com.

Guess I ordered too soon, I haven't even received my monitor from the Gateway store yet.

I have just PM'ed 950P with Gateway, free shipping and total for $241.45. Instead of 955's Dynaflat with 1600 x 1200 @65Hz max resolution, 950P gets 1920 x 1440 @64Hz max resolution. Horizontal dot pitch is slightly better on 955. I guess it's refresh rate vs. flat tube, I don't know which one I prefer (guess it's alittle too late to contemplate) but I think I'd be happy with either product.

Went in to BestBuy yesterday and was ready to purchase this 955DF ($300+ after MIR) but they were out of stock. Guess it's fate..saved $50, thanks for the deal info.

Yeah, some problems. I don't know why everyone here on Anandtech just raves Samsung monitors. IMO, they are not the best, but are cheap for a pretty good picture. I've looked at Samsung's monitors in stores and compared them to others, and they just don't stand out to me. The picture I always saw in-store was dull and had problems such as bad pin cushion, etc... compared to Sony and NEC. I tried to correct the problem, but couldn't.

I didn't care for the Samsung picture quality either when I compared it to nearby KDS and Viewsonic flat screen (AG) monitors. BUT it's $100+ cheaper!

RossMAN: as you might expect, it's the 755DF. Samsungmonitor.com is the place to go for info.

Might I also add that I have a 17" Samsung 700IFT, and it is fantastic. By far the best monitor I've owned.

I've had this monitor for over a year for my second computer. It comes with a (3) year warranty which is nice. It's a decent monitor for the price, but it cannot compare to a Trinitron monitor.

When staring at the screen for 8 hours a day, do yourself a favor and invest in a higher quality monitor. Your eyes will be happier for it (less eye strain). For occasional use, it not too bad.

Remember, my opinion only, make your own judgement.

bigsmooth - Thanks for the links.

BigDaddyPig - I agree, nothing compares to a FD Trinitron tube but this is for a friend who is on a budget and only needs a 17" but I'm going to try and convince him to get this since it's such a good deal.

vinnyracer - That all depends.

1) What do you not like about your current monitor?
2) What model is it?

I got my Samsung 955DF today. I like it, picture is nice and bright. I think it looks better than the display model I saw at Best Buy. I haven't compared it directly to my 21" FD Trinitron (they're in different rooms), but I think it's a great monitor for the low price. Mine has a little bit of geometry problems at the bottom (looks like horizontal pincushioning which is not adjustable) but it's very minor. I like that it weighs 23lbs less than the old IBM 19" fixed-frequency workstation monitor that it replaced.

Even if the picture quality isn't as good, I'd rather have the flat screen. Once you go flat, you never go back. My other 21" monitor (FST shadow mask) looks like a bubble now that I'm used to flat screens.

I don't like the oval shape monitor. I have the Viewsonic E790. Two of my friends have flat 19" Monitor and I feel jealous. How much do you think I can get for this monitor?

I'm order this monitor as I type this for a friend who is getting a Dell Dimension 4100. I figure the price is about the same as Dell's 17" except for 1) Buy.com offers free shipping, 2) This is a 19" and 3) This is a flat screen.

I only hope it arrives in good shape and Samsung has a good warranty program.

Buy.com pays to ship this thing back if you don't like it?

That's a deal right there.

I bought a wireless access point once and returned it. I hadn't opened the box, I just changed my mind. Buy.com made me pay shipping, I guess because changing your mind costs them money. The 2nd time I returned something was a wireless router that acted funny. I selected "Opened box, Defective" and then they provided a free UPS shipping label. So if you change your mind and want to return it without paying shipping, I guess you could always say that it's defective.

<< No i'm not a buy.com employee...i have been looking at this monitor for a while but i don't have any $$$ to buy it. >>

I don't have money for a monitor either. Anybody want to donate one of these babies to the Salvador fund?

Yup, but supposedly if you claim that the product is defective, and it isn't, then they can charge you for shipping for the item after that. And I wouldn't just go around breaking the product either, because that can be pretty obvious. =)

Yeah, that's true, although you could always be really nitpicky and say you didn't return it because the geometry isn't quite perfect. Or write a little note telling them it has an intermittent problem that shows up after 20hrs of continuous use. I doubt they'd spend that much time trying to verify it as they probably just send them all back to the manufacturer.

I've seen the monitor. I'd only return it if something was wrong with it. I've heard horror stories about multiple $40 a pop RMA's on the KDS Avitron's because they couldn't get a good monitor.

The reviews at CNET as linked by mdesigner are uniformly negative overall. Not worth saving 50 bucks to have a product that has known problems. Last generation and next generation better. These things are being blown out for a reason, they are about to be replaced and the new model is supposed to have correction for the pincushion distortion you can't fix on the 955. What is another $50 over the life of a monitor? My $.02
