I am running it at 1152*864 and also at 1280*1024. after about 5 min my eyes start to hurt. can anyone tell me all the settings that they have it set to in order to make it clear. I love the flatness, but cant stand the freaking eye hurting. Please post all the settings and what you have them set to (at least the ones that can be quantified.) thanks a ton on advance everyone.

I'm also running at 1152x864 at a refresh rate of 100 hertz. Obviously your refresh rate is too low.

What OS are you running? In 98/ME it should default to the optimal one. Else you can right click on desktop > propterties > settings tab > advanced... > monitor tab and then force it to the refresh rate. Don't go over what your monitor/video card can handle though.

Also, what is the refresh rate you are running at at those 2 resolutions? You can find out by pression the info button on your monitor controls (providing 955df has same or similar OSD as 900nf)

Refresh rate is one thing that can cause eyestrain however in your environment, you are likely to find several things that can cause eyestrain, including glare on walls and reflections on the computer screen itself. Minimizing reflections and reducing ambient light are particularly important aspects of your physical-viewing environment. When your monitor power is off, it may surprise you to find that one of the reflections that you see is your own! In order to minimize reflections of things in front of your screen other than lights - including your own face - it helps to reduce the general light level (ambient illumination). Use window shades, blinds, or drapes to block out excessive sunlight, also reduce the internal ambient light if outside light cannot be reduced. Use proper lighting, overhead fluorescent lights tend to be an excessively bright source of ambient illumination, in addition to facilitating reflections. Reduce the lighting by using fewer light bulbs or florescent tubes or use lower intensity bulbs and tubes. I recommend using indirect lighting with a dimmer control, such as stand up halogen lamps that reflect light off the ceiling.

Once you have your environment set up, reduce the contrast setting of the monitor. Resist the temptation to run your monitor too bright. White should be a pleasant white, it doesn't have to illuminate your room. Operate your monitor only at a comfortable brightness / contrast level. This may help your eyestrain.

Good Luck

When i changed it from optimal to other rates, the highest i could pick was 85. this helped a bunch, but i'd still like to get it higher, i also want to know how you got it to 100hz. i could use that.

Some monitors can't do 100hz at high resolution, or even at lower resolution. A good monitor will do 1600 x 1200 @85 hz and 1280 x 1024 @ 100hz.

I don't think the Samsung 955df will do more than 85hz but 85hz should NOT cause eyestrain.

Is the text/icons on your monitor sharp or soft/blurry? (your monitor might be going, or your video card might be to blame)

Also are you able to see the monitor refresh lines? (if you answer yes, that really bad)

Do you wear glasses? (Your eyesight might be changing)

Lastly....Why do you need to run your monitor at that high of a resolution? Just because a monitor CAN run at 1900x1200 doesn't mean it will look good at that high resolution.

<< how do you get your rate to 100hertz ? >>

pugh go to your display properties panel(ie,right click on desktop and select properties),then click settings tab, then advanced button near the bottom, then click the adaptor tab and you will see a least of refresh rates,(note you can only use ones that your monitor supports).

If you can see the monitor refresh lines, does this mean the monitor is going or that the refresh rate is improperly set?

Is there an option to show all refresh rates? Because in win2k it wouldn't let me choose 100hz for 1280x1024 even though my monitor supported it until I unchecked hide unsupported ones (even though 100hz is safe). I don't know if you're running 2k though. And obviously don't try 100hz at 1280x1024 because the 955df doesn't support it. I'm surprised it can do 1152x864@100hz.

But if that doesn't work, then get Powerstrip and you can pick whatever resolution (make sure your monitor is capable of handling it though).

Some people just can't deal with flats. I'm one of them, I tried one for a week and couldn't get used to it, so I went with a semi flat 950P and it's great. Seems to be brighter too.
