If asking, you likely wouldn't notice any real-world difference between your SATA SSD or a PCIe 3.0 (or 4.0) drive.so is buying a PCIe 4.0 NVMe pretty much a waste of time?...I currently have a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SSD...for my upcoming Zen 3 5800X build should I keep that drive or upgrade to a PCIe 3 NVMe?...this is mostly for gaming
That said, since you are paying a pretty penny to build a new PC at launch, I'd personally go with a 500 GB - 1 TB NVMe drive, and use the 860 EVO for game / program storage. You can get good performance NVMe 500 GB versions starting around $55.
