also some laptops require it to be set to primary slave, cable select or master. That has to be compatible or you need a different firmware

The reviewers have posted lots of information. I read through the reviews and saw that several people have successfully used them with Compaq V series laptops (V2000, V5000, etc.), so I'm pretty sure that it should work on my laptop. Try searching the reviews for your laptop's make or model.
