Then buy a dedicated MP3 player? If music was that important to me, that's what I'd do...

I don't see the need for that much local storage on a phone. I understand wanting it, but I don't think the majority of smartphone users out there would take full advantage of it, so the handset builders must not think it's worth doing if it means all phones get bulkier and/or more expensive.

I do have a need for it, no matter what you feel. I fully understand I'm in the minority and that is why the phones are not coming with storage of that size, but I would actually take slightly lesser specs on the phone in order to get more storage. I'm sick of having multiple devices for music and phone, so a single device that can do everything I need would be ideal, unfortunately I have to compromise due to the needs of the majority.

well since SGS2, at least, is confirmed to work with sd xc by various XDA users, and since xd sc has an upper limit of 2TB, I don't think you guys should worry too long about finding 200gb storage on your phones.

Plus, I assume that next years generation of phones with micro SD will be factory compatible with SD XC.

I think the 64gb SD XC from Sandisk is currently $300...so you might want to hold off a little bit.

Still, with most upcoming devices having an micro SD slot, assume that 200gb or more of storage is not a mere pipe dream.

Lexar 128GB SDXC card: $200.
So if you find a phone that will support it you're halfway there.. I do wonder though whether the music app would have a problem with that. I know iTunes on a computer starts to break down with a few hundred gigs..

If I may ask though; why is it you need all your music with at one time? I agree it would be nice to have, but I do survive without it..

here is one person that got it to work

http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/6310-Sandisk-64GB-Micro-SDXC-card-mine-is-on-the-way!

it seems to be downloading and reading that card as if it were a regular file format. not sure, though, how it effects different types of files--playback for music, video, images, whatever.

he apparently got it to work on Froyo, and on an HTC Sensation, as well. cool.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1028610

..but reformat to Fat32 will limit max file size to 4GB. so...no HD movies.

That's some seriously lofty requirements/dreams. Unless you accept some compromises I think you'll be waiting years before that's even close to a reality. Guess I can understand that you don't want to juggle music on and off the device, but almost think you'd be better off with a 160GB ipod for planerides etc.

Personally I think I can accept 32GB in the device and streaming/caching of all my music from Subsonic or Google music. It's not that much hassle so I can live with it, until we get 250GB flash storage on phones

edit: and if you're that serious about music it's my understanding that the DAC on most phones is not that great, and there are dedicated mp3 players that give better sound quality (which I would think would be important to you)

there are no MP3 players that fit my requirements, the ipod classic is close for size however it fails for just about every other reason (itunes, interface, wheel, format support, SNR, no drag and drop, itunes, itunes itunes)

Great, but it's not micro. Micro is only up to 64gb, which is why I noted that 80gb is the current tech limit.

aah! Didn't know that was different. I don't deal with SD cards SLR with CF and iPod only..
Well then the couple people here with massive collections have even longer to wait then.

old-ish; canon 40D. Released 2007 apparently. Man, older than I thought. But hey, I still think 10MP is enough. Think they went over to SD with the 60D? Not sure about the 7D. edit: yes CF. Like Anubis said I think all the pro models still stick with CF. Probably since the pros would freak if they had to replace 100s of gigs of cards

Initially I dismissed these calls for more storage as too early but upon further review...

File sizes are blowing up constantly, HD displays are around the corner and smartphone games already exceed 1GB in size. While most should manage to go about their way without noticing it all, once HD content is widespread both powerusers and the regulars alike will start feeling the lack of storage. Still think you guys are digital hoarders.

yes, that makes sense. I'm still rocking my 300D (digital rebel, 1st gen). problem is, I need to replace the batteries. They died some time ago, and I've been slow to deal with it.

Honestly, I don't see much need to go above 6 or 8 MP. just give me a full-sized CCD, damn it!

its because i have nearly 200GB of music and i want it ALL on my device. I know some people find this strange but its how i like to do things

i want it all on there so I
1) don't have to change stuff in and out
2) don't have to stream it from something which kills the battery and is not available without a connection (airplane)
3) carry around a separate device

i would actually do #3 but no one makes a mp3 player with enough space

it makes a lot of sense to have it all. Who knows what you'll be in the mood for? Blues/Jazz? Metal? Rock? Beethoven? Or need some study music and Beethoven is too busy so you need Mozart? etc

Been using Opera Mobile since I bought the T-bolt, but the stock browser seemed equally smooth to me, once the page loaded fully. Opera loaded it faster though.

Since the human eye can't distinguish 24 to 60 though, does it matter?

The limiting factor with web browsing on a modern smartphone, of any OS, is data throughput.
This isn't true. 24FPS, with motion blur (like in a movie) is the minimum to fool the eye into thinking there's motion instead of just still images in a sequence but it's not identical to 60FPS especially with non-blurred motion like scrolling a webpage.

Furthermore, it's been shown (on tests on fighter pilots IIRC) that the upper range of the human eye is more like 200FPS. Nonetheless, empirically, 60FPS is smooth for most people (although a steady FPS is more important).

In any case, perhaps the T-bolt's stock browser is accelerated as well. I've a modified stock browser that also runs at 60FPS for instance.

You should run the three "flinger" tests (Ocean, Text, Image) under Vellamo (free on the App Market) to see what your browser goes at for larger websites. I find that even pure stock runs fine for small mobile pages but if you try to load something like XDA Forums, it'll bog down amazingly.

I think he's pulling our chain judging by the at the end.

is the point of this so you can switch with it to another carrier / it's unlocked / you can sell it when you're done?

Well that, but why would you want to with Verizons LTE. More like it wont have a GSM chip so unable to take it to most places over seas.
