If you're playing Angry Birds, how do you get out ASAP? You know, like when you're at work and you need to hit the Home button fast so your boss doesn't know you're not paying attention at a meeting?

Yes you may be right there's some gesture or whatever we have to do to invoke the menu, but when something's full screen like a video, how do you get the navigation buttons to come out?

My guess it would be similar to video playback. Touching the very bottom area of the screen would invoke the buttons menu and they disappear after a delay.

Aren't the buttons there all the time?

I'd certainly hope that only video apps (where touching anywhere would bring up the buttons) would have access to hide the soft buttons.

Man. The Galaxy Nexus really has me thinking about cancelling my Sprint service, selling my brand new Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch, and going to VZW for this monster. What an amazing device.

I thought about that but is it really worth it? Screen size is about the same, the CPU is slightly slower. Beyond NFC and higher res, what is the point? You end up /w higher pricing for a pretty similar phone. I actually am happy it doesn't have more as these specs helped me go hmm ok thats not that huge and I can live /w my E4GT until the next "big" release which will probably be quad core.

I just hope I can put those buttons back in the proper order (menu first!).

menu first is not the correct order. actually it sucks

the OG droid had back first and so did some other phones (i think), its SO MUCH BETTER then how the Dx is set up with menu first, words can not explain it

i also like how there is no search button in that SS.

Higher Res alone makes it worth it. After using a qhd device, wvga phones all seem like toys

are you kidding me?
Tell me this is a joke. For all they they may have been buddies, Apple is and has been playing for keeps. (Ask Samsung.) If this is true and actually pushes back the launch date I and a lot of Verizon customers will be furious.

Didn't say anything about the launch date; just the announcement, right?

It would be odd for them to move this announcement simply because a competitor died. But I don't know, maybe it's a strategic move to throw around some good will and push to end this preposterous legal nonsense between the 3 equally-entitled companies.

...or, Nexus is not what we expect it to be, and copying Apple's strategy, Samsung is trying to build up even more hype with unconfirmed leaks, wild speculation, and will try to best Apple in utter disappointment when they do show us something that we didn't expect.

:hmm:

That's certainly colorful! At first I was confused by the lockscreen, then I realized they just put the boot ani on gingerbread.

And yay, lockscreen camera support. Although I'm not quite sure why it needs to open the homescreen before going straight to camera. Perhaps they will improve that further, but seems like an unnecessary delay.

Eitherway ICS and the GN is looking nice! I don't care about the potentially 'so-so' gpu as I don't intend to do much 3d gaming on it, and otherwise it's looking great! The OG Droid has been a damn good phone to me, but its definitely getting retired for this :awe:

Well, I thought about it. And for me, it would be a pretty good move. Currently on Sprint with my girlfriend, but she's sick of her BlackBerry, and has decided she doesn't need a smartphone, and would do just fine with a $45/mo all you can eat Straight Talk phone. So she's going to cancel her line and pay the $70 ETF to get out of it. I'm also kind of sick of Sprint's 3G in my area as well, and would love to be back on VZW. I could cancel, pay the huge ETF, but then turn around and sell my Epic 4G Touch and break even, or possibly make some cash. My father, mother, and sister are on a VZW plan with a corporate discount, and he said he'd simply add a line to the family plan if I wanted.

I've never owned a Nexus device, and this one looks too damn good. I would love to be running ICS on that beast when it hits.

in video playback that's fine, but in gaming that makes that part of the screen useless. in essence this goes back to the question, why not just have buttons in the first place if the bottom of the screen is reserved to bring the menu up.

Sure you get to enjoy more screen real-estate visually, but you can't use it with your fingers. I dunno. Plus the demo of the Nexus showed the guy having problems pressing those buttons as well..

Well, this at least gives the option of having the buttons gone for video playback while still being there for games thus solving both problems.

It looks like he's just an idiot and was doing things like hitting Home over and over while already on the home screen or hitting Back over and over when there's nothing go back to.

Feh. I don't buy the 'mark of respect for Steve Jobs' line one bit.

I'd bet it's more like they originally rushed the announcement date as much as they could get away with because they thought they'd be announcing an answer to an iPhone5 or something.

Now it's like, "Why are we rushing to compete with a updated iPhone 4? Screw it. Let's actually work all the kinks out first and then announce it when it's actually ready."

First thing that popped into my head too.

I'm also guessing that VZW & ATT want to milk the 4s sales for a couple weeks before they announce better hardware.

either way they're getting sales. people either buy the nexus or iPhone.... the only people who really care are Apple and Samsung/Google because the sales get split.

but given all the talk about VZW, maybe the Nexus isn't a 3-carrier launch, so someone's not too happy about it.

And they should've known this. Everyone knows Apple was due for a launch in the fall. The invites came out after everyone knew Apple's announcement date. And it doesn't take rocket science to figure out Apple usually gives like a 1-2 week heads up before the actual release, so Google/Samsung knew EXACTLY what they were getting themselves into when they penciled in October 11th. I'd be very disappointed if they flaked out on us, but the rest of the tech world won't give a rat's ass because who really cares about Android announcements anyway? Only Apple announcements people follow minute by minute with live blogs and videos and twitter and Facebook feeds all clogged up....

Pretty sure Google and Samsung had no way of predicting that Steve was die when they booked their event. If Jobs was still around, the event would go ahead as planned. They didn't want to have to compete with the media over funeral arrangements either.
