To be fair it has nothing to do with Verizon. Google picked TI for ICS, and TI really seems to love last generation GPUs. That is why last year's Droid X had a worse GPU than the 3GS (with a higher res screen too). TI cheaps out on that part of their SOCs.

If ICS really does have more GPU acceleration it could mean a slower interface than comparable models (Whatever 720p HTC comes, the Galaxy Note, etc.).

Who really cares about the camera?

Me. I don't want to carry around a separate camera. My smartphone is already a full fledged media player, browser, emailer, phone caller, GPS navigator...why can't it be a full fledged camera replacement?

...because consumers are stupid and think megapixels are what matters, so they can put 8MP cameras with horrid sensors/lenses/flashes and call it a day. Its about time manufactuers started following Nokia's lead and actually investing in the things that matter in their camera phones.

Have you used WP7? They have the old GPU from the original Snapdragon, and the UI is fluid as can be. Properly implemented GPU acceleration in the UI does not require the iPhone 4s's dual core GPU.

And they all have WVGA screens and a single hardware platform to optimize to.

My experience with my Nook Color tells me different parts of Android (like lists in particular) really lag on high-res screens.

And again, it might be just fine. I was just pointing out that if ICS does have GPU acceleration comparable 720p phones might feel faster due to better GPUs.

Yeah, but that's *not* the case with the SGS2.

Remember that the Nexus S had a worse camera (or, specifically, camcorder) than the SGS1. I'm starting to blame El Goog for this element.

What is up with all of the whining around here lately? First the iPhone 4S gets drug through the mud and now there's a myriad of complaining about this.

It has a 720p screen. It wasn't too long ago that it cost over $1000 to get a television with a screen with that resolution. Now they've put it into a phone and it's basically the same dpi as the iPhone 4. It's probably going to be a best looking screen out there for some time.

It is not the SGS2 that is the issue, it is the fact that iFans will have an obvious dig at the phone. Honestly I just mentioned the SGS2 because it is amazing they would go backwards...

I must have read this incorrectly, Poofy, because you are normally a pretty rational guy. The problem isn't that the phone is step backwards hardware-internally from the SGS2... the real issue is that iPhone people might make fun of it? You are joking... right? ARGH! That article says they think the processor is a TI OMAP 4430, not 4460. IF that is correct, the GPU is still even slower yet.

Okay, I take back every negative thing I've said about Verizon lately since they passed on the Galaxy S2. (At least until they find a way to dick up the Nexus and bloat it down).

I don't get all the fuss over the processor- what the hell are people doing with phones these days, video editing?

I have a Droid X with what must be a super-sucky processor compared to whatever this will have, and the thing does everything I want it to, even play most games decently.

Personally, I don't need a freakin super computer in my pocket with a whopping half hour batter life, I just want enough extra speed to fix any previous issues with lag.

And like others have said, just upping megapixels is meaningless. Mostly I just want a camera on my phone to snap quick pics while I'm out. I'm not using the thing to do photo spreads for National Geographic.

I think these smartphones are really spoiling us. (I want a quad core Sandybridge in my pocket with GTX 580x2, 6TB, 96GB of RAM with twenty seconds of battery life!!!!!!)
