Is signature required?
Again, so jelly!
Got mine though bestbuy, so not sure about signature. I know samsung is sending their's with Signature required, but doesn't specify online when looking at my tracking number. So who knows.

I think I'm going to pass on the Note 8 and go for the Pixel 2 XL. That is assuming it looks anything like the V30.

Well I can confirm that bestbuy doesn't require a signature. Got my Note8 left out in the rain

That is crazy that they ship a $1K item without signature confirmation.

Yeah I would've been pretty upset if I hadn't already taken the day off and I came home to my Note8 having sat in the rain for hours, or worse having been walked off with by someone.

As it was though I opened the door and picked it up off the porch as I watched the UPS guy walk back to his truck. No signature or anything.

It's a great phone too, the screen is really something else.

It used to be that LCD had a better white while AMOLED had a better black. Not any more. White on recent AMOLEDs is what I call "milky white" without a hint of backlight, which is more pleasing to the eyes than that of LCDs. It is quite amazing how Samsung keeps improving on this display tech.

3pm and I am still waiting for my Note 8. Working from home today (or so I told my boss) and was hoping for an early delivery but no, still waiting.

So what's the verdict ? Dud ? Not any better than S8+ ? King of the phones ? Also are the speakers as bad as they sounded in the store (soft without punch but clear) ?

Let us know how you like it. I have read a couple of reviews and it seems to me the biggest problem for the Note 8's success is going to be none other than the S8+ which is just as good yet can be had at lower prices. While I do not think S-Pen is a gimmick, I reckon that group of actual S-Pen users is a lot smaller than general customer base of the Note series of the past.

P.S. And why does Samsung insist on printing the names of the phones on the back? They are an eyesore.

I just got a S8+ instead of N8 for the same reasons you mentioned. Besides, I just don't have any confidence in Samsung's software on pen support IMO when third party notifications are already handled so poorly.

My note 8 finally arrived at 8pm. Already used smart switch to copy everything from my s8+. Went super smooth. Just messing around with the cameras. All is great so far!

Good that it finally arrived.

So far I have to say i'm really enjoying the phone, the curve is different from the S8+ that i've used in-stores and the Note8 is great to hold.

Thats truly bizarre 'reasoning'. If you don't need the pen, that's fine, but Samsung is in a league of their own with the S-Pen and a phone that's basically a small Wacom tablet. There's almost no one of any tech knowledge that doubts the S-Pen is well implemented- it's just a question of if you need it or not.

My reliance on the s-pen is the one factor that keeps me on the Note series. In my job, I have always carried around notepads and pen, constantly scribbling out notes & orders, designs, & such. Once I discovered the Note series(started with Note 2), I have had every iteration of the Note(2,3,4,5, & now the 8, and both 10.1 tablets). Not having to keep track of thousands of pieces of paper is a lifesaver.
I've always dreamed of a Windows phone with pen support. That would be my ideal phone.

Yeah, questioning if you'll use the Spen and deciding if it's worth it for you is a personal thing, doubting the Spen software however is silly, they're on their 8th or 9th generation of note devices (depending how you count the Note7/Note FE and Note edge). The device is praised and sold MAINLY on it's Spen. Why would anyone have any doubts about it whatsoever?

Again, personally doubting if the Spen is useful to you or it or not is normal and expected, doubting the software is just kinda weird.

Oh and a PSA for those who got the Samsung Gear 360. DO NOT connect it to a fast charger or wall wart for that matter. It probably wont charge or turn on at all. Charge it using a plain old desktop or laptop usb port. Don't know why but yeah. A quick google helped me on that as mine would turn on or charge if I tried to use any fast charge adapter.

According to reviews, the Note 8's battery seems to hold up well in comparison to S8+ even with its larger screen and the S-Pen. My guess is that the 10nm manufacturing process has matured quite a bit. Earlier this year there was quite a bit of silicon lottery going on especially for the Exynos 8895.

http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...w-overpriced-s8-pen-still-pretty-great-phone/

Somewhat heated rhetoric here and there but I think this review is fair and balanced.

The panel used in the Note8 is also ~10% more efficient if I remember correctly. According to displaymate anyway.

S8/S8+ had a peak brightness of ~1000 nits, Note8 has a peak brightness around 1240 nits. So in most normal lighting conditions the panel will be drawing a decent bit less power than the S8 or S8+

Same here. Had every note but the first and 5. I never was much of a paper note taker, but definitely I'm a big digital note taker and quick sketch/chart/designer.

I still catch myself reaching for the pen on my s7e now and then... total reflex. Can't wait to chuck this thing and get my Note back.

I've always dreamed of a Windows phone with pen support. That would be my ideal phone.
A Surface Phone with pen seems like a no-brainer to me. I just personally think Microsoft is just too bamboozled by the phone market. Their whole focus to me has always been on some hoop dream of theirs wanting to capitalize on the strong position Windows has on the desktop... rather than just design a top notch phone interface and platform.

If MS would just chuck off their past baggage and design a Surface phone for people that like the Surface, and could care less about the past and whatever missteps they made- just wanting a great Surface Phone moving forward, I think MS could have a huge winner on their hands. Surface is a solid brand in itself- it could easily include a great phone as well.

If Apple weren't so stuck in their box, an iPhone Pro with mini-pencil would be damn awesome.

As it stands, Samsung has the pen-phablet market all to itself.

The S pen is definitely the Note seller. I can be terribly absent-minded and being able to jot down a thought really quickly while I'm busy with something is fantastic.

I was remembering back to the Note 3. My boss just upgraded from an old Galaxy S1. So happy and proud with with new Note 3. Was talking on his desk phone and asked me to hand him a pen and paper to take an order. I kept telling him to use your phone. He kept looking at me like I was from another planet, until I took his phone and showed him what a Note was for....he looked like he saw light for the first time. Lol

Do you get use to the new form factor and how do you keep from hitting the edge if holding one handed ? When I played with one at the store I found my hand tended to wrap around the edge which cause false hits (i have small hands but can use my note 4 one handed if needed; but with no dead area on the sides with the note 8/s8 this seems difficult)
