I also find it interesting that the battery size is actually less than the S8+. Are they being ULTRA conservative with battery safety? Seems like the S8+ was already safe enough.

They are probably being extra-stupid cautious with the Note 8 battery. Absolutely no chance of it exploding. Even a single incident with it and people will react like predictable lemmings and call for another recall, and you KNOW a certain fruit company would play it up to the hilt to clear the way for their own 8 device.

Even if an S8 somewhere blew up, no biggie, but just the NAME Note= can't under any circumstances blow up.

My bet is on it being the safest phone available.

Also it blows I can't get one in blue right away. What's up with only two colors?

Black just looks a little too plastic-y to me. My blue Note 7 was the best looking gadget I ever owned. I guess I'll have to see how good the grey looks.

Im gonna go back to black. My first N0te 7 was silver to match my S7 Edge. Then the recalled one I got was black and I dug it. My S8+ is orchid grey, but the color is only on the back glass so unless you have a clear case you can see the color anyway. I hope I can "sway" samsung to knock 400 bucks off a Note 8 if I give back the Note 7! I am so looking forward to messing with the new cameras!

Kind of a meh release for me. Already having an S8 must contribute to that initial impression. And it looks ugly to me in the pictures but I will reserve a judgment until I see one in person. Why the heck does it weigh so much?

Just a note for you former Note 7 owners -

If you had your N7 registered to your Samsung account, then if you trade in your current phone you get $425 off (has to be a phone off their trade-in list, see link for more details). Seems to be US- and SK-only, though I might be wrong

http://www.samsung.com/us/galaxy/note8/Note7Promo/s/Review/

Otherwise the same "up to $300 off with eligible trade-in" promo going on for the S8/S8+ also applies here

Any of you former N7 owners not planning to upgrade? Could use a promo for a little something thrown your way...

Well I placed my pre-order. Note5 trade-in for $300 is far better than i'd get selling it myself. Total out of pocket costs are ~$85. Monthly bill stays the same.

Got an s8+ to replace an s7e that someone cracked. Was thinking about a note but doesnt really look like enough of an improvement to care about. Now if they'd take my cracked edge as a trade in, I'd think otherwise.

Such a great deal if they'd take my Note 4 as the trade. Maybe I'll Jump! my G6 to it through T-Mobile. I dunno.

You could always get a $50 prepaid iphone 5S and toss it their way... $375 is still better than $300. Or $200.

Does the unlock version means it not carrier locked or the boot loader is not locked ? Also does it work with verizon (i.e, is there two different versions with different spectrums or is it identical - i think the asian version does not have snapdragon and not all the us frequencies) ? I'm still on note 4; which is actually still ticking away but samsung isn't updating the kernel any longer (god I hate this shit where they just stop udating the phone - kind of pricey thing for that crap).

I *think* the best deal if you aren't upgrading from a recent phone is to trade-in through Samsung's site using a secondhand LG G4.

I'm guessing with carrier-unlocked, I doubt we'll see a (current) Samsung flagship come out of the factory bootloader-unlocked again.

If you need Verizon (or CDMA in general) support, you need the Snapdragon version... US/Canada/China get those, everyone else gets the Exynos socs. I imagine the unlocked version off Samsung US' site is the Snapdragon variant as it is for the S8/S8+, but don't quote me on that. Worst case you could just preorder it directly from Verizon.

Also, Best Buy is offering $150 off if you get it through them with contract. Doesn't apply to unlocked version.

All phones sold in US are Snapdragon and are the same no matter who you buy from. You can "easily" flash any carrier's (or the unlocked) firmware you like...at least with the S8.

A 6.3in screen with the battery that's no more bigger than the note 4. I can't wait to read about the morons who get this phone and complain about battery life... many of whom will be in this very forum.

It's 5% smaller than the S8+ battery which most reviews say will give you easily a full day of battery life and then some.

The fact is it's a 10nm SoC using DDR4 RAM. Compared to the Note4 on 28nm SoC and DDR3, it is simply far more efficient.

In all likelihood the battery life will be longer than the Note4.

I'll probably get the camera. Have tons of SD cards and 3 vr headsets already. Hopefully it will work with the s8 vr I got already.

It doesn't fit, that's why Samsung introduced a new VR headset for Note 8 -- backward compatible with older phones

The note 4 had a better endurance rating than the s8+, so no, with 5% smaller battery, an extra camera, a pen with a much bigger screen is not going to yield a longer battery life than the note 4. Where do you guys come up with such logic?

Lol what a joke, they're ALL basically in the same area.

Note4 is 90hr, S8+ is 88hr, Note5 is 85hr.

It's going to be between the note5 and S8+ in terms of battery life. So it will be right up with the Note4 in terms of battery life, but far more powerful, larger screen, etc, etc.

To even pretend there is a significant difference between the Note4 and the S8+ is laughable, they're within a handful of places of each other on that ranking chart.

Cool, so you were wrong about the note 8 having better battery life than the note 4. See, that was the whole point of original post.

If you're so pedantic that a few % difference in battery life is what makes or breaks a device for you, then you're just a troll in this thread anyway adding vitriol and no real substance.

This is a thread about the note8, not about how your note4 is somehow magically contrived to be better.

Goodbye S7E.... Hello grey Note 8!

I don't usually pre-order things, and sight unseen at that, but I've waited for this since the day I had to (VERY reluctantly) box up my perfectly good Note 7 and give it up for a phone I never really wanted.

Can't wait to get it!

Don't have a brain aneurysm now, buddy. It's just another phone [mod edit]

You're right it's the note 8 thread, and so far I haven't said anything that's not pertaining to the note 8. I'm free to have an opinion on the phone and shoot speculation like everyone has done here. I've owned pretty much a phone from every major manufacturers and are able to discern how a 3yo phone has longer battery life (which is important to ME) than one with newer tech that cost +$900. How that can be perceived as trolling? Beats me..maybe you need to take a break from the internet and go pick up a dictionary or something.
