Most people don't share your issue with larger phones. Many people were looking forward to the International version of the Note and if the At&t version is a failure it will likely be due to the negative impact Snapdragon has on performance and battery life.

You know, one of the funniest things I see is how people extrapolate interest in a device from the opinion of a subgroup of a subgroup.

I really like this phone, but the sales figures will suck.

No, it will be a failure here because it's a niche product. Not because of Snapdragon or LTE. Size is very legitimate concern and issue. Asian females love the pen feature but I don't know how well it will fly here in the US since it's basically a gimic with poor software support.
Do you always generalize about products you've never used? S-pen is hardly a gimmic and you can see just how useful it is by browsing numerous videos on youtube.

I'm not saying it will be an iPhone 4s or Galaxy S2 killer by any means but I'd still expect the sales to be somewhat decent. There is a lot to like about the device and it seems like a decent number of people really don't care how big their phone is.

I've seen the videos and I've read the reviews. They say the same. I don't need to have used it to have an opinion. I never used Echo phone and I think that 3ds like dual screen ripoff is a gimic. Never used Evo3d but think the 3d on that phone is a gimic. I think the pen can be very useful and good. But right now it's a gimic. Couple Samsung apps that use it doesnt change that. It's not worth the slow update and support sure to be caused by having the pen.

Anyway, managed to score one for $150, will be breaking the contract and putting it on Straight Talk, unlimited everything for $45/month and using my Republic Wireless phone $19/month unlimited everything, brings my monthly bill down to a reasonable $65/month for 2 lines of service.

I use Google Voice so I can tie the lines together with call forwarding, etc...

So far:

  • Love the screen
  • processing/gpu speed seems good, this is my first dual core phone
  • pen input is meh, never been a stylus fan, and I may as well buy 10 because I'll lose them constantly like I did with the Windows touchscreen phones I've owned in the past
  • Not in an AT&T LTE market, so regular 3G speeds, which are reasonable...
  • Battery life seems to be about 5 hours of heavy use, not enough air time to really tell yet

Please let us know how StraightTalk works out for you. I'm also interested in giving them a try if I got a Note. Specifically I'm curious to see if they throttle data speeds.

I've used GSII for a little while until I switched to iPhone 4. But Galaxy Note is definitely the Android device to be tempted about.

Unfortunately being in Canada doesn't help with the ridiculous pricing of wireless plans and the device itself.

The Note has and will sell much better than some here think. If Sammy had there act together and offered the Note in the USA with Exynos and LTE a couple months ago that would be my new phone instead of the Nexus. Yeah, I know Exynos is not currently compatible with LTE but that is Sammies problem and they should have had a SoC that was in the Exynos class and was LTE ready.

I do think the Note is a little larger than needed and wish it were a bit smaller. If they'd used a smaller bezel like the new demo they have and if the screen was 5" instead of 5.3 they could have made it about 0.75 shorter and more than 0.25 inches narrower. Give me a 5 inch screen phone in a 5 x 3 package and I'd be all over it. And, in a couple years when the performance is high enough to drive it ... I'd like that 5 x 3 phone with a 1920 x 1200 screen...

Even if it does... so what? How/why would that play any part in your decision to buy?

I think that the less a phone sales, the more likely the manufacturer is to not support it for two years. That would factor in to my purchasing decision.

Once again, the sales for this phone in the rest of the world has been very good -- not iPhone or SG2 good but way more than most experts thought it would be. I think the sales in the USA will be pretty good as well an will probably be higher than the SGNexus.

Again, I wanted to buy this phone since it was announced last September but the fact that Samsung take too f'n long to release stuff in the USA an that the USA version will not have the Exynos SoC was enough to make me go elsewhere.

I'd like to see a new version of this phone that's physically smaller, has a high end SoC with 2GB RAM and, most importantly, 1920 x 1200 resolution. Make that available and I WILL buy one...

You are spot on, in 3 months these things will be dirt cheap on Craigslist.

Honestly, it's too big, and sales won't be that great, it'll be discounted pretty soon. And i suspect many people will return them so there will be lots of refurbished units.

that would be AWESOME. i hope it does flop. a $100 no-contract galaxy note would be PERFECT for my coffee table as an htpc media remote.

Thumb keyboard, does.

Sweet, I love it. Being able to choose a different style in portrait and landscape modes is genius.

Thanks

Sort of a strange sidenote, I have a ton of black co-workers, seems like among the smartphone users, 4 out of 5 tell me they want one

I got recovery working on that device from ICS recovery sources, even though you didn't respond to me about files
