Damn, now I gotta decide if I still want the Atrix or if I would prefer this...

No official updates w/ a really nice screen and gingerbread vs locked boot on older OS

Nice pinch gesture lag at 2:24, i can't believe this still exists on dual core cpu + gingerbread.

dual core doesn't solve anything. it really is just the software.

all this talk of hardware and stuff is overkill. a 400mhz ARM11 processor should be able to make this smooth. going dual core, etc etc is just brute force hoping that your software will run smoothly

So, who's actually going to buy this? You know full well you'll likely never get an OS update, that the GPS will be flakey at best, and that the solution will be to buy another phone in 6 months.

Samsung's sold 10 million Galaxy phones, they likely figure they have mobile all sorted out.

I would for sure but my contract still has a long way. Really I could care less if Samsung or any manufacturer releases shitty official updates, I'd download custom roms either way. So far the Galaxy phones have been much more friendly to custom roms then the locked bootloaders of Motorola for example.

Frankly the only thing I care about is if the potential is there i.e. the fastest hardware. Even if its laggy at stock, if the Hardware is fast enough, custom roms and launchers will make it perfect.

And the GPS on my Fascinate works just fine because there was an update to fix it. I didn't have to by a new phone.... You'd be silly to think that Samsung isn't going to make sure they don't repeat the same issue again.

Your choice. Just remember, you're supporting their shitty business practices by continuing to buy their products. Even though you rely on the community to support them for you.

On the bolded, this is what people said about the Galaxy S line after the Moments and Beholds received no updates and had broken GPSs as well. Third time's a charm?

Edit - Oh, I'm not going to defend Motorola either. Their locked bootloaders are major deal breakers for me. However, they do at least support their high end phones with OS updates. Puts them one step above Samsung in the toilet bowl.

Anyone remember the Instinct? Lol, poor support is gonna be a repeat again.

Motorola and HTC are still capable Android phone manufacturers, I would look at what they have to offer.

Yup at least their phones work. I have the Moment and it's terrible. GPS sucks plus it gets data lock-ups randomly. It's seriously a terrible phone. They pulled the same crap with Galaxy S phones so they obviously have not learned from any of their mistakes.

Looks like Android devices are gonna need a mobile i5 processor to not run laggy. Pretty amazing that having a dual core doesn't seem to help much at all.

It's 100% smooth save for that one instance.

there's hiccups left and right too. sometimes handcent takes ages to load. sometimes the os just gets all bogged down when trying to pickup a call while browsing the web for example...

Engadget mentioned this in their Nexus One review and their Nexus S review.

Not going to defend Samsung and their sh!tty upgrade failures, but my Captivate running Phoenix 4.5 (froyo 2.2.1 based ROM) is a very sweet phone. It is very stable, fast, good battery life, excellent screen etc. Also rooting and ROM installing is pretty easy.

Again, stock - it deserves all the hate, but for even the casual tweaker, it is a great blank slate.

Everyone is talking about the video not those phones. It's 100% smooth save for that one instance.

Why would it be fail? We already have 4.3" screens with the same rez.
We had those screens from last year, this is 2011 now, i'd expect nothing less than qhd like moto is releasing.

It will always have lag no matter how fast the CPU gets until Android gets graphic acceleration.

Doesn't gingerbread already have gpu acceleration, or am i thinking of honeycomb?

One thing to note is how badly the added UI's from the manufacturers mess up Android's responsiveness.

I'm running CM7 on my G2 and it's always buttery smooth everywhere. The difference is really amazing.

With that said, even the stock launcher is great (I'm running LP) in this department so Google themselves have work to do.
