Some crazy prices for the top of the line phones from Samsung. probably has to do with the GPS issues on these phones right now but what ever the reason they are great phones.

I got my Fascinate(verizon) last week from amazon for 50 bucks with new service last week and price dropped by another 10 bucks.

Att's version captivate is only 29.99.

Tmobile is still at 99 though.

GPS issues is suppose to have a firmware patch coming out soon or with the 2.2 froyo update.

This is the fastest android phone out in the market right now.

Root and unroot are available on all phones, if you dare (pretty easy)

I've played around with my coworkers' Galaxy S, love it, feels much smoother than my overclocked to 1ghz Droid. I can't really justify upgrading at the moment now though, so I might wait till the 2nd gen that has dual core (if they do that) and more RAM and 4G support (MetroPCS).

People have been saying that newer mods like this ROM have fixed GPS for them on the Vibrant.

There are custom Froyo ROMs for the Captivate already.

One little catch I noticed with the Amazon deal: you can't select the $5 texting plan. Amazon only offers the zero texts plan or the more expensive $10 texting plan (but not the $15 unlimited, as far as I can tell). A direct purchase from Verizon allows you to select whatever texting plan you want. Wonder if you can order from Amazon for the discount and change options after the fact.

Wouldn't most carriers require you to get a full data plan anyhow? Don't data plans include unlimited txt?

No, Verizon tries to rape you separately on the texting.

That said, I use Google Voice for free unlimited texting over data anyway. Only catch is that you text from a different number.

Galaxy S link? search doesnt come up with any with plans or am i missing something?

they are all galaxy S. just differnt models for each carrier, Vibrant for Tmobile, Captivate for ATT and Fascinate for Verizon.

They are all a little different in that they have a different community for each unit.

Data plans are different than texting. and you don't get a choice. it's either full unlimited data or none at all. why would you get limited anyways. you'll hit that 25mb limit in no time.

Picked up a Fascinate last month and it is reallys lick. The GPS is messed up (although there are apps to make it work, but not perfectly) but it is a great phone. As usual you get the Verizon bloatware, but name a phone that you don't get it with. Samsung was nice enough to make it easy to root, rooted Galaxy S phones are extremely fast (blows the doors of the standard phone), I'm looking to root soon.

Good find!

I called Verizon to ask a few questions about upgrading to one of these phones through the Amazon deal. They said (for what it's worth) that when you by from Amazon or another third party, you lose the ability to change the features on your account for 6 months, because you're signing a separate agreement with Amazon that requires you to pay the full cost of the phone if you make changes. That's how Amazon locks in their profits on the deal. You also lose the "new every two", which is only $50, so it's not that big a deal. When you buy from Verizon directly, you can change the options on your plan whenever you want.

Hrm, so I guess the idea is "make sure you know what you want before you purchase" 'eh? It wouldn't surprise me at all if Amazon's warranty is better than getting one through Verizon though.

If you're interested in the Fascinate, it looks like Best Buy will have it for free tomorrow with a 2-year plan (new *or* upgrade).

wish you can do it without a data plan. i have a computer for data and wifi if needed. $30 fee forced on you to use a phone and not the application is the only thing holding me back from these deals.

Price for ATT only works if you're creating a new line. $150 if I want to upgrade, since I'm on a family plan. Not cool!

fascinate is 0.01 now at amazon.. WTF..

you try upgrading thru verizon before 6 months.. you still pay out the nose. yes upgrade is more.. but $150 is still damn good deal. Amazon will check with your carrier if you are elegible for an upgrade too.

Coming from my old phone, it's fantastic. My first Android phone, and it's obvious a lot of thought went into its design (software-wise). Screen is amazing, and it's a powerhouse. What else do people want, especially for free?

i think samsung is trying to dominate the market. why else would they do this? when the 2.2 froyo update comes out for these phones it's going to be no brainer which phone to go with.

fact is my GPS works fine. it does take a long time to sync up, like a garmin gps when it's powered up. but other wise as long as you're moving you're fine, I used it in california just fine. I just left the GPS on the whole time and never had a battery dying on me like all the new Motorola and htc phones.

I haven't confirmed yet but i also hear motorola will be locking their phones with next rollout of updates.
