Samsung Galaxy S Tmobile too old?

I'm looking to buy this for someone who wants decent call quality. Is this still getting updates from tmobile? Is this ancient even for an old person, and how is the battery life?

I think the last update was gingerbread, its fine for old people, if they don't use it expect a few days of battery life.

You can flash Lollipop (5.1) on it. But it's mainly community supported and stopped receiving updates after 2.3.

Might be a better idea to just get a Lumia 520/521 or 635.
The 521 is/was $20 at target.
The 635 was $50.

I'd probably pick up the Moto E assuming it works on your network. It's $130 outright for the 3G version. An extra $20 gets you LTE, and it's guaranteed support for awhile from Google.

galaxy s = vibrant? If so i'd avoid it. Depending on how much you're looking to spend, you can pick up several others

including the Moto G 3g moto G lte or even the moto e lte.

thanks this is for a family member on my tmobile line, I see they are using 75 texts a month, 1mb out of unlimited data but 900 min talk time and they complain the voice quality isn't so good on the nexus I gave them. So I need to pick up something cheap, for tmobile, with wifi calling. Prefer a 4.5" or above as they are old.

Motorola has excellent radios since that's originally what they were. I would look at the moto e or g

If voice quality is of concern you may want a VoLTE device.
