i said it a while back and i'll say it again. verizon isn't getting the GSII as we know it. this is according to a friend of mine who works at samsung's verizon office.

of course, he could be trolling and I may have to eat my words in a few weeks.

Interesting...
Someone last week told me a friend of theirs is actually testing the Verizon version and that it does NOT have LTE.

Hope we don't share the same source.

EDIT: This person told me on the Thursday the 11th, I just checked my call records. This person is "a friend of my friend", but since he's not personally my own friend and I only see him as an acquaintance, I'm not sure how much to trust him.

Well, since the Nexus Prime is rumored to drop in the same general timeframe on Verizon only...

(Yes, this would be the ultimate nerdgasm phone.)

Honestly I don't care what phone I get at this point. I want a next gen phone. It must be 4g. It *should* be dual core. It must be able to be rooted. Around mid Oct I'll be getting a new phone, and we will see what is out at that point.

i bet irene is going to make samsung postpone their announcement on monday for another month.

this is the worst product launch ever. deny it's existence, announce that they will announce something back in april/may, cancel, make everyone wait 4 months, say it's coming to the US and wait for the launch date, now it's getting to the point where no one gives a damn anymore.

i just freaking want a smartphone

my next phone will be able to push 70million polygons/sec Textured and LIT! I also want Iphone 4 like battery. I don't care what graphics it uses, or what CPU it has. Just as long as it pushes 70 million polygons/sec! And it must have a resolution of at least 1600x900 or 1600x1200 if it's a 4:3 phone. or 1920x1200 if a 16:10 phone.

Also, I want it to be 4.3" with a profile of no more than 7.5 mm thickness all around. I also want beats audio installed.

While it sucks Verizon isn't getting the SGS2, I would be even more stoked if they get the Nexus Prime. If this is true, I'd consider this a nice turn of events.

Doesn't the Nexus Prime have a 4.5 or 4.7" screen? That's just too big for me to comfortable carry around all day.

4" is about perfect IMO, but I could make due with the 4.3" of the SGSII. Damn, looks like I'll be getting the Bionic. :\

I guess I could buy out of my contract with Verizon and switch back to AT&T... and their tiered data... fuck

4.5 but its form factor makes it not that much larger then the DX2

AAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHAH

Verizon Wireless is passing on the Galaxy S II smartphone according to a report in The Wall Street Journal on Thursday. BGR has confirmed with multiple trusted sources that this is accurate — Samsung will not unveil a Verizon-branded GALAXY S II smartphone next week at its New York City launch event on August 29th. Instead, Samsung will take the wraps off of GALAXY S II handsets that will soon launch on T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T. We’re told two of those carriers will maintain the “GALAXY S II” branding but one may offer a unique name for the handset. BGR has also confirmed, however, that Verizon Wireless will soon launch a Samsung device with very similar specifications — as in, nearly identical specifications — but it just won’t be a “GALAXY S II” phone. Perhaps it will be a new DROID device, a possible successor to the Samsung DROID Charge, or perhaps it will be something else entirely. In either case, Verizon Wireless subscribers certainly should not be worried when they don’t see an S II announced for the nation’s No. 1 carrier on Monday.

Well, thats a relief. I don't really care what they name the damn thing. I'll bet it'll be incredibly lame though.

Did Samsung ever release the Tegra based Galaxy S2s anywhere? The Galaxy R seems to have the Tegra chips, which IIRC they released in Russia.

With the rumors of Verizon getting the Nexus Prime (something I never thought would happen), I've lost all interest in any other phone.

All the US variants? Or just the non-SGS2 branded Verizon version?

T-Mo's Hercules might have a Snapdragon. I read somewhere only the Snapdragon chip supports the 42Mbps HSPA+ radio, and the Hercules might be T-Mo's 1st device to run on the 42Mbps network.

Now that the meltdown of the no Verizon SGS2 has ran across the Internet, there are big questions left over:

If not for Verizon why then did it take so long for this phone to come to the US? Did they try to persuade Verizon by offering them first shot, and then just gave up after some point? Is Samsung really only going to have the Charge as their major Verizon subsidized (since the Nexus never is at first) offering this year?

If OMAP4 is the Ice Cream Sandwitch reference platform there is no chance the Nexus Prime will have Exynos.

Its hard to get a good bead on the performance of the OMAP4s, so far, most of them have been crippled with MotoBlur and a tiny 512MB of RAM, making them slow and sluggish for even mundane tasks. My T-bolt runs rings around a co-workers new Droid 3, its pathetic. Hopefully, we'll see the Prime on Big Red soon.
