I have this one in black. I already dropped mine while going throught the subway turnstyle. The GS3 flew out of my hand about 15ft and landed on solid concrete. Not a dent or scratch.
When my phone dropped after being flung 15ft it landing flat on the screen. Not a scratch. It is raised but hardly. I cant even begin to measure how much it is raised because it is very flush. I have no issues using it in landscape but it is raised enough to protect the screen on a flat drop. So no, the screen did not take a hit. My heart stopped beating when it happened. It resumed when I picked it up and saw it was still flawless. One thing tho, the top and bottom are not covered so it it drops and hits those spots you wont get protection but it makes easy access to all ports. The cover can even be removed with headphones and usb plugged in. Snaps on extremely easy and is tight to take off.I like the looks of that one but is it raised at all? if I were to drop it screen down on a flat surface would the screen take the hit or is there any height added from the case?

low profile cases do just fine. TPU cases like ones by diztronic or Incipio should be just fine.
There's no need for fatass cases. I see this too often. A silicone lining + hard plastic outer shell? 1) the silicone deforms over time, 2) it's fat as shit, 3) feels low quality after silicone deforms. Otterbox is the biggest offender in this. It's great they have their designs but unless you plan on bringing your phone to a battlefield, TPU based cases can handle your everyday drops no problem.
TPU is also less stretchy and lint-attracting.
Note that TPU is sometimes called silicone, but silicone is never called TPU.
Um, yeah, that's why I said *less*. I find TPU rather lint-repellent, actually.TPU may be lint attracting, but silicone is a lint MAGNET. It will attract 100x the lint and is also 10x harder to brush off because the surface has that sticky feel to it. You can wipe TPu clean with your fingers in 1 stroke.

Agreed, I can't believe the number of phones I see encased in ugly plastic bricks that make them twice as thick as normal and look like a toy you would see at the dollar store.
