Samsung HDTV 32inch Dynaflat = $729.00 at Sears. YMMV

Ad header says it all. $799.00 - $80.00 if you use your Sears card. For a HDTV monitor, my opinion is that this might be the CHEAPEST and BEST one for the money. Dynaflat's might rival Sony Wega in flatness and superb quality.

Here's a link to one that they are selling on eGay:

Samsung

This was last year's model, but it's still one heck of a set. Anyone know of the differences between EDTV and HDTV?

still a great price on a 30"+ HDTV, $729 is cheap. Just buy it without the Sears card, straight up cash. heh

I own this Samsung TV, and before I bought it, I compared it side-by-side with the competing Toshiba and Sony 32" monitors. I must say, the Toshiba and the Sony are better, without question, but they are also more expensive. My local BB has the Toshiba for 1000 on clearance, and I bought my Samsung for 900 a few months ago.

All in all, I would still by the Samsung 32" for 799.00-80.00 over the Toshiba for 1000, but it would be a hard decision. If the Toshiba were 1000 when I bought my Samsung for 900, I would spend the extra 100 bucks and get the nicer TV. But with the price drop, I would say the Samsung would be the way to go for me.

I use it for my Xbox w/ a component connection, which looks stunning, and my Progressive scan dvd player. I'm happy with the quality, even though I know there is better stuff out there. Also, keep in mind, even the interlaced crap that comes out of your wall jack will look better on this than just about any high end non-HD TV from Sony or Toshiba or whoever.

ED is extended definition - it can handle 480i and 480p (progressive). HD is high definition, it can handle 480i, 480p, along with 720p and 1080i.

I saw the guy on TECH TV say that 720P is the best of all. ABC and NBC (I think) use 720P to send out HDTV shows. While FOX, CBS, and some other stations choose to pick 1080i. All in all, HDTV is interesting me. This Samsung set would require the need of a HDTV receiver though, like some of the other HDTV ready sets out there.

Circuit City is selling a comparable Samsung "EDTV" for $649.00. EDTV is still the lesser of the formats , but it's still very clear.

Fox doesn't broadcast in HD at all. It's Fox Digital and it's better than regular TV, but still crap compared to HD.

Fox does 480p, iirc.

Are you guys referring to the Mfr. Model #TXN3271HF?

It seems to be the TXM3297HF (if the eBay link above goes to the correct TV--of course, there's a typo in the eBay description). . . .

Damn, I just paid a grand for the same tv a few months ago. It's quite nice. It has the bells and wistles, like BBE and 3:2 pull down, of the higher priced Sonys and Toshibas but at a lower price. Though one down side is without an HD signal the picture can be grainy, especially up close, of course this is true for all HDTV's. But a nice progressive scan DVD and component cables on your game system will make for a nice picture. The other down side is that to get most HD programing you need an HD antenna, again true for all HDTV's. I know in my area the cable company only carries NBC and PBS in HD. The one down side to this model is switching between the different inputs, there is a short cut on the remote but since there is a bunch you have to cycle through them all, but I was able to over look that for the price.

Also, 720p is not neccessarily better than 1080i, except for sports. Otherwise they are comparible.

Final word of warning it is a beast it weighs in at 150lbs.

Hope this helps.

if one (who, me?) were to use this TV as a computer monitor, what sort of resolutions would perform well on it?

I recommend against buying anything online from Sears.com. I jumped on this deal thinking that they would honor their pricing, etc. I got a confirmation Friday that they "processed the order" but then they sent me an "Order Cancelled" email, and said that it was "Out of Stock".

I asked them if any substitutes were available and they said "you're screwed", nothing to the extent of "we're sorry". All in all, a huge let down and a waste of time.
