Buy this printer and send in for this rebate
I bought this printer at Sams Club the other day for $129 and if all you need is black and white it does a great job
I was looking for prices on toner when I saw the rebate at New Egg and thought I pass it along
The Amazon pricce is the best I found but it said offered by J&R whatever that means
The toner is about $70 for 3000 pages is the best I found so far
Looking forward to watch somebody else beat my deal as somebody always does so I can get in on it and get another one for the office

Nice price on the printer. I got it for $99 after rebate.

$70 toner was also the best I found so far here.

ugh.... wish my HP jetdirects did USB..... I'd replace my old HP LaserJet 6L (6ppm is pretty slow plus unit is notorious for jamming).

My 5L (which is the same design as the 6L, IIRC) also started multi-feeding last year. I called HP and asked for the fix (the Separation Pad), installed it, and haven't had a multi-feed since. The rep tried telling me the kit was made for 6L, and would actually make my 5L worse, but I told him I'd take the chance. Here I am, getting a few more years out of this little workhorse. The only thing it needs (besides more speed, but that can't be helped) is more memory, but I can't justify paying $40 for an extra 4/8MB of RAM for the printer when that kind of money gets me halfway to a new, much faster Samsung/Brother/whatever.

I have to say $70 for a 3K page toner sounds very expensive. I also bought a ML-1750 recently ($100AR @ CompUSA a month or two ago), but I almost went with the lower-featured HP 1010 simply because I think Costco would be more likely to sell HP toners. The cost of toners is the big cost with printers, and $70/3K is a ripoff compared to Brother's prices, IMO ($60/6K, IIRC--not to mention the Brothers have cheap, upgradable memory). Then I figured out that I could just buy toner using an OM/OD/S coupon when the need arose, which brings the price down to a more reasonable $50-60 + tax.

You can also refill these toners yourself at a fraction on the cost, here's a quote from a recent post someone made here in another thread:

As a matter of fact, I just refilled mine today. Very easy to do. Just use a small screwdriver to pry off the round cap at the right end of the cartridge. Work it slowly around the edges. Pops right back in after refilling. I used a 65 gram refill. printing as good as new again.

I think it just means that the product comes from J&R's warehouse but you are still ordering from Amazon. In other words, no one will no who filled the order, you're invoise should say Amazon. I think that's how it work IIRC.

I really like this printer, but you know what my philosophy is about it?

Printer = $80 to $99 (after rebate)

toner will last about a year (for me)-yea, I know the 1st toner is a low capacity starter, it'll probably still last me a year.

Toner = $70

So, a year from now when I need new toner, I can either refill it myself for very cheap, or for a loss of $10-$20, throw it away or give it away and buy next year's model instead of toner.

I had bought the Samsung ML-1430 last year for $160. Great printer also. When the ML-1710 showed up for $99, I bought it for the compact size and paper tray, it now fits nicely on my desk. The ML-1430 was handed down to my son

(toner for the ML-1430 is $54 shipped at yesmicro, maybe price for ML-1710 toner will go down in a year)

I still don't know what folks here have against refills, why they are so resistant to using them. I usually buy refills for my ML-1210 from ebay, I've refilled twice in two years now and after each refill the prints are as good as new. Get refills folks, they really do work!
