I have had it for almost a month now (got the same OD deal). Have had no problems. Prints very fast. Takes a little time to get warmed up initially, but once it gets going it is fast.

I have this hooked up to my G4 and have been abusing it with .pdf files and it has responded admirably. Fast printing, good text, but a bit loud when it fires up for each print job. Well worth the $100 I paid for it after MIR.

Give me a break, if you need USB 2.0 bandwidth for your print jobs then you should not be buying a sub-$200 printer.

I have a prior model, ML-1210. This has got to be the best laser printer deal on the market. It's a great printer. 8mb memory, 12 ppm, toner save function, etc. The only thing about it that could be an issue is the 600 x 600 resolution. That's not bad, but a 1200 resolution is better if need to print certain things.

Printers generally do not requre a large bandwidth connection, so USB 2.0 would be a waste. Most print jobs are spooled from the PC into the printers memory and usually you don't have that much memory to work with (some don't have any at all). In that case you would have a lot of wasted bandwidth since the line will be limited by the ammount of memory on the printer (if any). Having said that, this printer (like most personal printers) do not print fast enough to keep up with larger data file transfers anyway (in other words you may be able to transfer that large PDF over quickly, but you still have to wait for the printer to process and print it out).

The only value that a USB 2.0 connecton would have for a printer (that I can see) is:

Multifunciton devices (USB 2.0 for the scannar)
Large Color printers / plotters used for graphic printing (however generally these are network connected).

It's loud while it's printing and for a few minutes afterwards, but then it powers down and is silent. It's right at home beside my ultra-quiet PC.

Has anyone here had any experience with the toner refill kits? I'd like to find out whether the 1000-page "starter" toner that came with the printer will accept a full 3000-page refill.

If you print a lot you'll probably be better off with a more expensive (or used) printer with cheaper refills; long term it will be a better deal. Same deal with the Panasonic KX-P1700, which is offered for a similar price at buy.com; the replacement drum costs more than the printer!

i bought this same printer about 9 months ago. the fuser just went on it a few weeks ago. it's not worth it to get it repaired. i got little use out of it. printed maybe 350 pages on it.

when it works, it works great. i wouldn't buy it again though, and wouldn't expect it to last.

Not personally, but someone in a previous thread did assure us that refilling the Samsung cartridges was easy than with some other printers.
