I just got a new 46" Samsung LN46D630 LCD TV. The picture looks great but while watching a movie with black bars I definitely notice backlight bleeding from the corners, predominantly the bottom-left corner. I understand that this can be the nature of LCD technology but in reality how common is this? I read that it was more common with LED backlighting and that was one reason I opted for CCFL. Would Samsung have me jumping through hoops to get a replacement or repair? And even then, what are the chances the next one I get would have the same problem?

there should not be noticeable light bleeding. definitely contact samsung about it, sooner rather than later.

I'm no expert on LCD tv's but this phenomenon is pretty common in LCD computer monitors if you do any reading of reviews. So I'm guessing it's common in LCD tv's as well to varying degrees. I guess you have to be the one to determine how much you can tolerate. If it's really bad I'd say take it back. It's certainly not unheard of.

Will Samsung handle it themselves or tell me to go through the retailer I bought it from? Unfortunately I didn't buy it locally so I'd rather not do that.

I might give it a few more days and see if it's absolutely something I cannot live with.

If you bought it from an authorized dealer they will probably tell you to ship or take it to a factory authorized service center. If it's warrantied by a third party outfit who knows what you will have to do.

Almost all LCDs will have some degree of backlight bleed; however, as donfm said, it's up to you to decide whether or not it bothers you enough to return/exchange it.

Also, you should verify if what you're seeing is actually backlight bleed, and not some uniformity or viewing angle issue. Move your head so that you view the bottom-left corner straight on. Do you still see the glow, or does it disappear?

I have looked at it from all angles and it appears just as bright in the corner. After watching another couple movies I decided to put in a service request. Less than 12 hours later I got a call from my local service center. They are ordering a new panel and will do a home install. Hopefully it looks better and they don't make a mess out of the TV installing it.
