I don't know if this is old news here or not - However it is noteworthy

I just got off the phone with the Samsung tech/support warrenty dept and asked about an article i read in Maximum PC .. In the USA ( maybe elsewhere too) all LCD monitors bought after Jan1 2005 , Samsung will replace any monitor that has even 1 dead pixel within the first 90 days of purchase.

Kinda takes the scare off ordering online for me, since most online retailers wont replace unless there are more than 8 dead pixels. I've been looking at the 710T .

Very hot! I bought a 17" samsung with a single dead pixel last November at CompUSA... I didn't spring for the extended warranty and it was hard as HELL for me to get an exchange. I managed to get them to do it in the end but the experience was painful and this new policy will make me feel MUCH better about buying an LCD in the future

Just as a note.... CTL a Portland, OR based manufacture gives a Three year no hassle warranty.

Within three years if your LCD is flawed in anyway they will exhcange it and you get the rest of your warranty on the new LCD.

There 7GX model is aging now, but it is still a great monitor. 16ms panel, DVI etc...

CTL

There web prices are not acurate, the 7GX sells for way less than what they have advertised. As does the rest of the monitors on the site. Call to verify updated prices.

If true that's the hot deal part because even if you can get it exchanged, the shipping part is a deal killer when there are deals every once in a while at stores where you can exchange the LCDs if you find out it has dead pixels.

I balked at all the LCD online deals because of that, I mean, to bother paying for shipping (and waiting).

A good deal at a Brick & Mortar store is the only insurance. You buy it, then simply exchange it the same day if something goes wrong in the first weeks of use...

I guess the waiting part could be overlooked if you don't have to pay for shipping, is this really a new Samsung USA policy?

Samsung Announces Zero Dead Pixel Policy Displays Graphics

Posted by CowboyNeal on Sat Jan 01, '05 12:48 PM from the quality-returns dept.

Kez writes "A result for the consumer as Samsung declares any TFT that they sell from today onwards should be guaranteed dead pixel free. Until now, purchasing a TFT has been a gamble, given that dead pixels, while extremely annoying, did not necessarily entitle the consumer to a replacement monitor. Unfortunately, anybody who bought a Samsung TFT before today is not covered by the new policy." Update: 01/01 19:49 GMT by M: The new policy only applies in S. Korea. Suck.

That last little bit is probably important to most of the readers in this forum. I'll repeat it for kicks.
