If you're using Redhat 9, be prepared to do some work to get this Samsung working. Despite it's claim of working under Linux, it is only capable out of the box on older distros.

There are some wrappers you can download that will help it out, but I'm still working on it. I'll post updates as I get things figured out.

Also, 1250W can do 1200 dpi, while Samsung can only do 600 dpi. Not a big deal for text, but pictures might be a different story.

I'm not sure how many folks are going to be printing pictures in black and white. Good info, but I don't think it is going to be that big of a deal.

I have the First of the Samsung Laser Printers ML1200 I think it is and its been great for almost a year now. I use it at the office as a personal printer printing legal size text documents. The Toner Saver feature is amazing too, you cant even notice a difference in print quality. I think I get close to 3300 out of the $65 cartridges with Toner saver on. You can get the cartridges at Best Buy or Amazon. I am also amazed by the graphics even tho its at 600dpi and still does a fine job printing grey scale.

Yeah, it's not a big deal to me. The only time I print picture in black and white is when I am printing rebates or store ads.

I got the samsung. It's great printing text, sharp, crisp. But when it's time to print out it's own rebate, you can definitly tell that the picture is kind of grainy.

Did any one notice that the box comes with TWO copy of upc codes? Has anyone tried to send in two rebates? I bought at compUSA, and their rebate address is different than the rebate I got online.

Try setting it up using the built-in CUPS drivers for the Samsung ML-1210 instead of using the provided CD.
I use Mandrake 9.1 and access my printer over the network to a WinXP machine so our setups are different, but I believe using the 1210 drivers should work for you too.

Interesting, they don't use those big green stickers that they put across the sealing tape so that you have to cut through it when you open the box? And even if they don't, they CAN tell if a box has been opened. All you have to do is look at it. Duh!

I used to work at OD in Business Machines so I know this from experience. Sounds like a lame manager to me.

I'm considering this printer. I wish they would have the $70 rebate on the ML-1750. $50 extra for 1200dpi, USB2.0 and parallel port support would be nice. I wonder if there will be any new rebates starting 9/1 when the current one expires.

What USB 2.0 need you for, if 17ppm with USB 1.1 this printer can do ? 1200 dpi, ah, yes.

Ya guys think 99$ AR at bestbuy is worth it? I'm going to college and all I will print out are essays with maybe a graph or two but any prictures I'll go to kinkos or something...

But ya think its worth it?

I'd say it is. Try to find some coupons and PM if possible.

But for $99 its still a decent deal. One of the biggest plusses is that its small, which is great for college (Im taking mine to college too)
