Bought this from Newegg for a customer. It is fast and nice. A little noisy on startup but who cares. Compares nicely to the brother 1440 which I have thought in the past was the best bang for the buck on inexpensive basic laser printers.

It is half the size of the brother which is nice.

I do not know about toner but Samsung says it ships with a toner for 1,000 pages. I got 9,000 on my first 1440. (rated at 6,000).

For $75.00 after rebate it is a definite buy for one in need.

Just my 2c

Yeah I picked one up at Staples a week or two ago online for like $60 AR with coupon. It looks very nice, it's made of shiny white plastic and looks like something Apple would make. It is noisy on startup, likee leigh6 said, but it goes into silent mode eventually when not in use. That is a big plus for me, along with minimized or no smell. I also have a Konica Minolta 1350w, which is very loud and goes to somewhat loud when not in use, and fills your room with toner stink. The Konica print quality is way better than the Samsung for graphics, but they look about the same for text. The Konica is somewhat faster, too, but the Samsung is still very quick. The Samsung also has a pull-out tray, which is really nice. If you need high quality and speed, get the Konica (Staples sometimes has it on sale for $100 or less), but if you want quiet, decent graphics, and good text, get the Samsung. Plus the Samsung owns in the looks department.

I definitely would avoid Samsung. I bought their 1710 laser with 1000 sheet toner and I swear, the thing started fading after 100 sheets! And the full toner is not easy to find and costs as much as the printer! I did manage to find DIY toner to refill the stock cartridge but the print quality is not entirely satisfactory. Samsung products are starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I have the 1710 model... it rocks soooo hard! bought some toner refill on ebay and spent $10 and so far I have printed over 6000 pages on it with not one problem.

The Konica is $89 at Officemax right now.

Any problems with paper-curl on the Samsung? I have the new low-cost Brother, the HL2040, and the paper-curl is ridiculous. I would gladly swap it for the older HL1440.

I've purchased about 100 of these in the last 6 months and have not had ANY problems.

NOISY? As compared to what? HP, Minolta, Canon (by far the noisiest), etc...

Buy.com has it for $50AR today only.. Also, you should be able to use the $10 off $75 to make it $40AR

I think you got that backwards. You have to purchase toner to get $70.

If you don't purchase a toner cartridge, you only get $50 back, and thus the entire deal is $70 AR.

Is that not right?

AR means After Rebate

thanks for sharing this emeraldsky!

that buy.com rebate business is misleading. On the pic of the printer it states:
List Price: $149.99
Our Price: $120.00
Price After Rebate(s): $50.00

But you DO have to buy a toner to get that $70 rebate... else it's 50$ rebate which makes the AR price $120-$50 = $70.00 NOT $50.00 as stated.

bump for a great, affordable, laser printer.

I just got this printer and its sooo much faster and the text is much cleaner than my canon. Pictures are pretty ugly compared to my canon tho, but i print 95% text, so I'm loven this printer.
