Samsung S7 is a piece of garbage... Why?

1)Marshmallow has a feature where an SD card can be treated as internal memory for all intents and purposes. This is one of the best and coolest features of Android M.
Guess what though... Samsung disabled that, so you can forget about using this feature!

...

The choice can only be LG G5, Nexus 6p, or iPhone. Samsung is not a choice.

None of those phones have the adaptable storage option either.

Just pre-orderded my Galaxy S7 Onyx. My 2 year contract was up so figured i might as well bite at just $199 for the phone with contract.

So now the only question is, which freebie do i choose? The Gear VR or the Gear S2?

Can't really see myself using the VR headset but have wanted a nice watch for a while.

I'd go for the Gear S2. Its app ecosystem isn't as diverse as with the Apple Watch or Android Wear, but it's nice to have notifications and a few key apps on your wrist.

Samsung feels that they have to save you from yourself, where you might pull out your SD card during use and mess up your file-system.

I bet not. I bet it's more any SD card would be a dog performance wise compared to the S7's internal memory. Samsung did it to protect its users from poor performance which I understand.

The days when I want to run the OS off of a SD card (like I had to do with the Transformer Prime) are long long gone. Internal memory is WAY faster, like the difference between a usb drive and a SSD.

2)Some sources claim Samsung will only sell 32GB version of the phone in US. Want 64GB or 128GB? Tough luck pal. Get another phone.

Pretty narrow and poor advice IMO.

Adoptable storage is a good solution for budget phones (4 or 8GB internal) to expand internal storage cheaply. It's not a great option IMO for phones where there is sufficient, very fast internal storage as you'll be limited to the slower speeds of the mSD (adoptable storage uses msd as primary) and any removal of the card will cause everything to crash.

Using it as media storage is the better option for probably 98% of people - 32GB + up to 200GB should cover everyone but the extreme fringe.

And discarding out of hand a phone with easily the best low light camera, the only one that seems to still care about size (S7 is the only "normal" size flagship, G5 and S7 Edge are nearly the same size, phones like the 6P are just huge), the only one with a growing VR footprint, and the best screen to battery ratios is pretty foolish.

They might not be the best choice for everyone, but will be good choices for practically everyone.

Where's everybody pre-ordering their s7's at? Most places I see want you to sign a contract. I've already got a contract. I just want to buy the phone outright, no payment plan, no contract, etc.

Does anyone know when recording video can you select the video to be recorded on the sd card? I'm guessing any apps you download will be installed on the internal memory.

I'll go as far as to say adoptable storage is certifiably dumb and Google never bother to think this through other than another bulletpoint for their Android update press releases.

If pulling a card messes up your file system, Samsung is right to disable it for a mainstream phone.

Well I think it's a fantastic feature for super budget phones in emerging markets. Take a 4 or 8gb $50 phone and double storage for a couple dollars. It helps the under-served and is a great option for that segment.

I just don't think it's a good option for phones like the S7, or G5 for that matter.

One solution doesn't have to be the best for all use cases.

You can do it on their other phone. Note 4 and the A series phones.

Pre-ordered one through Verizon, there was an option to pay the full price which I did.

Quick question. I tried my aunts Galaxy S6 and played some music. The sound quality is seems to be better on my iphone 6. Is that because of the Samsung earbuds that come with it? Would better earbuds help(if so which ones)or is it more of the headphone jack that Samsung uses not powerful enough?

This isn't really the right thread for it, but if you're not using the same earbuds, you can't really compare audio quality between the two phones.

And the choice of headphones is another subject entirely. I'll say this: the sweet spot for mobile listening is typically around $80-120 if you're looking at a good set of in-ear headphones. Go for brands like Sony, Sennheiser, Etymotic and Shure; avoid Monster, Skullcandy and other brands that are more about the look than the sound.

Well SanDisk have just announced their new cards with 275MB/s transfer speeds so the storage is certainly fast enough.

https://www.sandisk.com/about/media...-card-featuring-worlds-fastest-transfer-speed

As a Storage engineer who has worked with EMC/HP for more than a decade, I read such numbers often. Vendors give you a lot of numbers and most people fall for it without giving a second thought.
I can almost gurantee that will be large block sequential data transfer and probably at artifically high Q depth. Ask them to show data for random small block writes with multiple threads writing at same time. ()
Then compare it against UFS.

Thanks to malikshuman and inffy on AC forums we have the first benchmarks of the Snapdragon 820 vs Exynos 8890 using Geekbench 3 with their retail S7 units. Obviously, can't make any concrete conclusions from just one sample from each, but it's interesting nonetheless I think.

Exynos 8890

Single-core: 2158
Multi-core: 6494

Original tester: inffy
Source; Received my S7 Edge today (dunno how), unboxing and questions - Page 4 - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

Snapdragon 820

Multi-core: 5344

Yeaa. How different is a Sandisk class 4 really vs the new stuff when we talk 4k random write?

Playing around at best buy, the 7 Edge camera definitely focuses incredibly quickly, even when forcing focus in the distance and them immediately putting your hand in front of the camera. Noticeably better than my Note 5 - very impressive.

I'm still not sold on the edge screen itself but the more compact size vs. the Note 5 and much larger battery is tempting along with the improved camera.

I also really like the blacked out home button on the black color without the chrome accent on prior phones.

Probably going to still wait for the Note 6 since it may have the best of both worlds - large, flat screen with possibly an even bigger battery.

Interesting observations. I'll have to check it out at Best Buy. The S7 edge I find awfully tempting, but I also can't wait to see what the Note 6 brings.

I tried, but options are "upgrade existing line" or "add a device". I picked add a device, but when I get to the checkout screen, it has a new phone number for it. Can I change that number to what I have now after I get it? I don't want to do the payments, I just want to buy it outright.
