Yeah but the S7 is a lot taller and doesn't have onscreen buttons. That was one thing I hated about Samsung phones. I've grown to hate physical home buttons on larger phones since you have to shift so much the of weight around to reach it one handed.

It's trivial to have softkeys if you really want them that much even without root (or you can map screen swipes to home)

Samsung phones, even with the hardware keys, tend to have less "chin" than other phones that have softkeys so they're superior even if you prefer softkeys.

Yes. A camera that is leaps and bound better.
A MUCH improved screen.
Thumbprint scanner.
Wireless charging.
SD Card (if you need it).
Blazing fast performance under the hood.

It's a good upgrade performance/hardware wise. Size wise it's going to be a lot bigger and your battery life will likely take a hit. G2 battery life was bonkers good.

Any display improvements between the s6 and the s7?

lol@swearing off Samsung and coming back

I'm in the same boat. I want that sexy, sexy Silver S7 Edge.

I don't really like soft keys. They take up screen space, and when they go away you have to swipe up to bring them back, which I hate (I don't like gestures in general except pinch zooming, don't even like the two-finger movement in GMaps). Hardware buttons/capacitive keys are always there, and never in the way, and you don't need to do anything special to use them.

I wish samsung would allow you to customize them like some chinese manufacturers do.

My S5 does everything I need, and quite well. Under 5.1.1, it's still peppy, the camera is fine for what I use it for, and that it gives me full access to the battery and storage while every other maker has gone the other way makes me want to stay with it. However you feel about Samsung, Android fans have a ton of choices now (perhaps too many?) and carriers (well, T-Mobile anyway) will let you bring in and activate any phone you can still stick a SIM in for a reasonable price. I see no reason to upgrade or switch; Touchwiz falis to give me nausea. You couldn't give me an Apple phone, and the S7 is probably the end of the line for Samsung. Seriously, how much more can makers stuff into these devices?

Take a moment and count the number of times the word "hate" comes up in this thread. Makes me wonder about the effect that the phenomenon of smartphones has had on our psyches.

What do you need to customize them for? They're the two most used functions; Back and Task Switcher. I personally can't think of anything else to use those buttons for.

Only samsung puts the back button on the right, that's the problem, if you could switch them around it would be nice.

Ah, you have an issue with the placement not that they exist. Yeah, I could see that. It was an adjustment period when I went to my DT2. At least Samsung is consistent about putting it on the right. Wasn't it HTC that kept flipping it?

Throttling looks good. Seems like the 820 is a great SOC. I can't wait to get it in a Nexus though. From that link:

Perhaps what’s most interesting, yet not shocking, is that we still managed to find lag across the user interface, including random stutters and framedrops. Indeed, our go-to GPU profiling test showed many skipped frames when scrolling through the Play Store, significantly more than our 810 devices running stock or close-to-stock software (Nexus 6P, OnePlus 2). We’ve also encountered random input lockups where performance did not take a hit but we simply couldn’t interact with the UI for a few seconds (repeated instances on the camera app and settings menu, reported by two XDA editors).

It's worth keeping in mind the S7 has a heatpipe, but I guess if Samsung equip their phones with Qualcomm silicon. You can be sure it will be decent. Only thing left now is power use.

The silver Edge is sold out EVERYWHERE. Verizon is estimating a ship date if 3/31.

I'm really close to buying one and selling the Gear watch for $300.

Had mine since Thursday.

-Really enjoying the battery life. Getting between 5-7hrs SOT with moderate use and all my services running. Pretty much never worry about a charger now. ***As far as I'm concerned everything else is cake after this***
-camera focus is indeed very fast
-finding the edge feature to be mostly superfluous and at times yearn for the additional screen real estate of a flat screen. That said, really like how a phone with curves on each side feels in my hand - definitely a keeper until a Note variety arrives.

only issue I've had: accidentally swiping my thumbprint too many times while taking it out of skinny jeans and having work's MDM solution wipe the phone (that was a riot! Everyone was rofl'ing)

Nice protective case (a little flashy in the silver that I got but it covers that bases well. I like it for the gym):

nice low-profile case (minimal corner protection but my favorite so far of the three that I've ordered - a few folks didn't even notice that I had a case on):

Ugh I hope it's not back ordered for that long. I just sold & shipped my note 4 on swappa for a decent price and then an hour later I got an email from att asking me to call to confirm details. I ordered on Saturday and it said they expect a ship day of 3/7-3/10. I asked the rep if she knew how long it would take to receive and she had no idea.

Hmm I guess it's not really a surprise as it's a very standout color and quite different than the standard white, black, gold you get from everyone. In person it made me think of chrome as it's reflective and pictures don't show the shine on it. Personally it's a bit gaudy for my tastes, but I do understand people wanting something fresher. Same with the rose gold 6S.

I'm still on the fence. I'm leaning towards ordering one on Thursday, though, last day to preorder and get the VR/watch promo. My Turbo2 is still going strong, but I want the waterproofness, that amazing camera and Google-stock Android frustrates me still.
