Samsung Series 9 Replacement?

My wife has a Samsung Series 9 laptop, model NP900X3A-A03US. The laptop is a few years old, has become slow, and she would like to upgrade.

However, she loves the thinness, look, feel and size of the Series 9. Is there any particular current model of Windows laptop similar to the Series 9, but with the latest processor, etc.? Any recommendation or suggestion would be very appreciated.

As any FYI, this is an anniversary gift, so prices up to $2k would be considered.

Thanks in advance.

Luckily, there are quite a few equivalent computers on the market nowadays. Dell XPS 13, MS Surface Book, MS Surface Pro 4, HP Spectre x360, Thinkpad X1, Samsung Notebook 9/ATIV Spin 9 all have good reviews. I'd suggest going to http://www.mobiletechreview.com/ for more in depth looks. Their youtube channel and comparison videos are especially useful.

I'd pay close attention to battery life, screen type/color accuracy, and keyboards before making a final pick. Those are probably the most important differences between those laptops for most users. Personally, I care less about having a top-of-the-line processor (as long as it's not an M-series) and more about having enough RAM and battery life. (Remember, over time that battery life is going to drop, so getting more than you need is always good!)

If you tell us how she uses her laptop, we might be able to come up with a more distinct recommendation.

Thank you. I believe she primarily uses the laptop for email, web surfing, online shopping and Word documents. She also uses Photoshop to touch up pictures, so I agree that RAM and a high end CPU are essential. Also, given her web surfing, she obviously wants a high end wireless card, such as the latest Intel wi-fi card with the AC spec. She also really likes the look and feel of the laptop, so I assume a plastic body is out, and she wants more of the aluminum type feel of her current Samsung.

Thanks again.

Hmm, Vaio Z Flip is great for the power, but weighs a little more. (Not that 2.9 lbs. is heavy.)

Samsung Notebook 9 if she prefers lightness and doesn't want to use a pen. (1.9lbs.) It's substantially slower than the Vaio Z Flip, though she probably would only notice it in Photoshop.

Again, the other laptops I already mentioned are also great, I'm just not as sure about their quality control. (I have a Surface Book and love it, but other people have had problems.)

Can your lady's machine be upgraded? More memory, an SSD and a fresh OS install could work wonders.

Thanks, Giantpandaman. I'll look into the Vaio. My daughter has a Vaio and loves it.

Nerp - We've upgraded already over the years. She's finally decided it's just not fast enough. Could all be in her head, but I promised I would look at new models with faster CPUs.

Thank you. After a lot of comparison shopping, I got the top of the line Dell XPS 13 (16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, I7 CPU, etc.). Cost me a pretty penny, but she should be happy for several years. She should be satisfied with the anniversary gift!

Thanks again.
