Can you tell any difference from a sata ssd? Hows boot times, I've got one in my cart but just waiting for more reports and thanks for any info in advance!

Boot time seems a little quicker, but when I did an ATTO test, I was getting about 1GB a sec writes and 2.5 GB reads.

All I can say is the thing seems really speedy.

Now, for the ultimate system, I want to order another 32GB of RAM and have a RAM disk for all temp files

I just got my 950 installed yesterday and loaded Win X. I find the boot time to take longer (3 seconds longer to initialize the NVMe from BIOS. Other than that, the thing screams when launching apps and such. And I can tell a difference coming from a 850 Pro.

One thing to note, neither the Samsung Rapid mode or the OS Optimization in the Magician software work with this drive.

ahh

for those that don't have the MDT its prob gonna be different
I wont do the build till at least Friday and im not exactly sure which route to go yet

I guess this is a dumb question what does MDT stand for? I know when W10 Threshold2 comes out you'll be able to use your old W8.1 key to activate, so I'm waiting for that so I don't have any problems with MS, and I just want to to a fresh install on the 950...be waiting to see what way you go on your install?

Microsoft Deployment Toolkit. It allows you to customize and automate installs. Every month I update all my Windows images in a VM, and whenever i have to reinstall, I do not have to waste hours patching.

Yes, sure did. The software clearly says these functions are not supported with the 950. I can still setup Rapid mode on my secondary 850 in my system.

Next level. I have setup SOE images using MDT in a corporate environment for ease of install, but to do it on a home level is a whole new level of OCD.

My current windows 7 install was done in August 2010 and is still healthy today and i only use MS security essentials, none of that bloat ware av that they peddle.

I just don't understand what people do that require them to reinstall every 6 months or more.

i.e. when you have an email arrive promising a date with a hot chick, Don't open it..

I just built a new box, and I don't like downtime, so when I switched from SATA to nvme I wanted to do it as fast as possible.

Plus I do some VDI work on the side, and being able to redeploy from scratch if necessary is nice.

as fast as possible, that would be a clone after installing the nvme drivers while still booting off your sata disk, then clone it.

But if you already had a fully functional MDT deployment environment then ad the nvme driver package and go for gold. Potentially loose all you profile settings and customization. My preference would to clone still.

I don't trust clones to not have residual crap.

But your not changing hardware, so if crap exists it was their before the clone was done. and if you are changing hardware.

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
start devmgmt.msc

Then remove all the grayed out devices that no longer exist in the system.

Couple of benches:

When installed on my 830 it gave me an 8.1.

Not sure if it is the result of cloning but I get an extra 15 seconds added on to my boot time accompanied by a series of very fast flashes on my case's drive light. About 4-5 per second.

I'm also a bit confused with the Average Response Time reading in windows task manager. It is often much higher for this disk than other disks I have, when benching with ATTO it went into the thousands. Sisoft Sandra reports seek time to be 2 nanoseconds.

Nice scores Deders right on with the advertised specs! It will be interesting to see what people get with a clean install.

Just did that same benchmak with an intel 750 400GB for comparison

If you are using windows 8 or 10, you know you can initiate trim in the same place you used to be able to defrag? If you go to the drives properties/tools/optimize you can do it there. It might make the writes a bit more consistent. Defrag is completely disabled for SSD's so it will just do the trim. You can also set it to trim automatically at a specified time.

Just tried it (also have the intel toolbox wich updated the firmware and have a trim option) While I did get better result, your 950pro seems to be much faster.

Is the drive really faster or something wrong on my end?
