FYI, I was able to get an order in on Amazon for the 950 before they took the link down. It now says that it will arrive on October 30th. Fingers crossed that this is accurate!

so is it worth waiting for the 950 or just get the 951 now?

I am asking the same question. I don't think speed differences are much. Probably 950 will get better driver support and will have easier installation(which many ppl are doubting because of 2 pushes to nda). I think, 951 should be considered if your mobo has proper support and you wont have to jump hoops to make it work. Just my imo.

I think both should be fine. But I'm hoping that the release of the new 950 might actually lower the costs of the 951s and help save you some money there. So maybe its better to wait?

i suspect, if / when the 950 is released, and there aren't a flood of reports of issues installing it, the 951 pricing will fall like a lead brick. There's already a report oven on Tom's of a vendor offering the 128 GB for $67 (iirc).

But if there are perceived issues, vendors will probably hold 951 pricing up, maybe drop them a little.

The guys over at PCPerspective have had the 950 Pro for almost a month and I keep waiting for reviews and not even a hint on when the NDA will expire....it's going to be interesting to see what the hold up will be??????

The rumor is they are having trouble finalizing the NVMe driver they want to ship with the 950.

Looks like us early adopters could be in for a round of beta testing for them.

Ive had my 6700k here for a week now but I cant use it because I am waiting for the 950 Pro to be released...
Would be nice to at least know approximately when the NDA falls, because then I could either keep waiting, if its not that long, or just simply buy a SM951 instead now if it takes much longer...

I've had my fully complete system for the past month and a half, waiting for the 950. I was originally planning to purchase the SM951 when I heard rumors of a retail version launching so I decided to wait, especially since I only found the AHCI versions of the SM951 for sale.

Local vendors in NZ are expecting the supplier to have stock on the 27th Oct.

Tuesday next week, rather than get my hopes up im expecting this to slip into November.

Two postponements already. Sends up big red flag that Samsung is having technical issues with the devices.

No, it doesn't. It sends the message, that they 're serious about their product, and don't want constant drivers and firmware updates like some other manufactures to resolve bugs. It will be released when it's ready.

By the way, samsung never officialy told you that it will be released at 10nth oct, they just said october.

SORRY, but it does say to me that this appears to be a rushed to market release. They or one poster with access indicated the NDA was going to expire on the 10th - and to have it pushed back twice doesn't say anything good to me

The fact that they are delaying it shows they are not rushing it to release.

the fact that they had announced an expiration date on the NDA and have pushed it back twice sez differently - whatever the issue delaying the release is, it's apparent they were overly optimistic on having it finalized and ready to ship - i'm in manufacturing, not electronic products, but to some degree all mfgring is gernerally the same - we or they should be past the stage of pre-production testing/evaluation and well into full production. To have the NDA pushed back that close to expiration date (no one knew apparently, till within a few days of the OCT 10th date), that sez to me that they've been caught unaware of an issue and overly optimistic on ship date, which kind of hints that they didn't do a proper evaluation process, which is what i was referring to as "rushed to market".

When they extend the NDA expiration one time, and from the indications given in this forum, that it was only a short extension, then to have that extension "renewed" AGAIN, sez they underestimated whatever the issue is. Samsung is a frigging major league player, so this stuff shouldn't be happening - got me wondering if maybe they gave this project to a junior engineer who quoted unrealistic dates / estimations etc, wanting to please or impress his boss.

It doesn't give me great confidence - sorry to dis-appoint, just speaking clinically. I'd much rather be lining up with everyone else, with my wallet in hand - but now, i'm going to wait, at least until Black Friday, if not till after christmas

PS - you know, thinking about all this, there were serious issues with the 840 SSD, something about speeds falling after some use - think they came out with a firmware update and Magician was supposed to correct the issue, that a lot of posters seem to think didn't correct the issue fully. Point, they did ship something, one time already, that wasn't right, and ironically, in the SSD field.

I tend to agree with Larryccf that they have issues too resolve as being the reason for the delay. Ill still buy one as soon as i can get my hands on one. This is the last piece of my X99 build I started last year .

I've already injected the MS hofix drivers for NVMe into my DART image in preparation for repairing the boot files after cloning my old Vertex SSD to the 950 and converting to GPT and UEFI boot from the old MBR, the other good news is gparted 0.23 is scheduled for release on the 27th with added support for recognizing NVME SSDs which I will use again to clone the Windows 7 OS partition.

I've been told by my supplier to expect one in the UK on the 30th of this month, but that was a few days ago.

NDA delays are way more common than you think, but they are usually not discussed in public. I guess I should've just stayed quiet and lead you to believe that the initial info was incorrect because now you are reading too much into it.

Why have they dropped the ball so to speak
