If anyone does purchase this (or any other OEM HD) from newegg, let us know if they improved their craptastic packaging.

just opened up my package of mobo, memory, psu, cpu and hdd. everything's floating in peanuts in their own packaging but the hdd is still wrapped by a single layer of bubble wrap.

I will never buy a Samsung HDD again. I had two SpinPoints die on me. Several months ago, I replaced a Samsung HD from an HP Desktop. At this moment, I'm replacing a Samsung from a different HP Desktop. Seagate or WD from now on.

I don't remember exactly, but the first I had bought from Newegg and was able to RMA it. Were talking 4 different drives. Two were mine. The last two were from HP desktops which I replaced the HD.

+1 for the wd6400aaks. I just got that from newegg and it's great. eerily silent after going from a 36 gb raptor and 500gb seagate to this single drive.

btw, newegg oem shipping was great on the wd6400aaks. drive was encased in bubble wrap, fully wrapped with a soft cardboard material, and the box was full of peanuts on top of that. they must have taken their oem hd shipping criticism seriously.

I have this hard drive, it has issues with my nForce3 Ultra. It will not boot if you reboot, you have to do a shutdown / complete power down if you want to restart your system.

The nVidia IDE / Sata drivers also cause it not to boot (on my nForce3 ultra), so I have to use the drivers that ship with Windows.

Other than those two issues, excellent hard drive and fast. Here is the AT review comparing it to the latest raptor, SSDs, and its nearest Seagate competitor, the 7200.11:

I guess I should have been more clear. The issue with packaging is if you *only* order the HD, they do a horrible job of packaging it.

If you order something else with the HD, then they do a better job.

I have the 1TB drive in an external enclosure and it's been fine so far. It remains to be seen just how unreliable they are, but I've had a Samsung HD in my MBP for the past 6 months and I've been extremely happy with it. It's quiet and fast and hasn't given me any problems.

i've heard the 334 gb platter ones have more problems than the 250 gb platter ones (like the 750 has 250gb platters).

if you read the newegg reviews, most of the problems seem to be with the 1TB one having CRC problems or bad disk areas.]
i have one of these 750GB f1s, and it is a great drive.

quieter andway less vibration than my previous WD5000aaks (Which wasnt very loud to begin with)

From what I've read, some if not most of the problems were due to a faulty utility Samsung had for its hard drives.

Augh, this or the WD6400AAKS? I can't decide between the two (or the 1TB F1, but I really don't need that much space).

You are an IDIOT. By the tone of all your posts nothing else can be concluded. Go back to your cave and don't embarrass yourself anymore.

dunno, do you really "feel" the difference? is it really that much faster? I dont think speed is the determining factor these days for most people, certainly not for me. Since both drives are known to be very quiet, higher gigs/dollar gets my vote.

Looks like they jacked it back up to $140 (I say "back up" because at one point they were $150).
damn, never thought that would have happened.... whatever, it will come down in price eventually I will manage with measly 2TB at hand, somehow

Count me among those never to buy another Samsung HD. As long as I have owned and worked on computers I have only had 2 HDs to ever fail on me, both were Samsungs.

I ordered "only" the wd6400aaks and it was packaged very well and cost $99 shipped. THAT is a good deal, as is $109 on this one. for $130 I'll pass.
