I'm tempted to get a 1 tb to match my current one and replace the 640 aals I have, not that I need the extra space.

FYI, Caviar Blacks still beat out the F3 in applications, if not sequential read/writes: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/storage/display/1tb-hdd-roundup-3_19.html#sect0

That being said, I absolutely love my Samsung F3 500GB in my HTPC, because it's the quietest, coolest 7200rpm drive around, and it's very inexpensive. I've installed the WD 640GB Black in multiple computer builds, and it's nowhere near as quiet. If you're going for application speed, however, it will beat the Samsung, for about $20 more. So you can have cheap/quiet or fast, but not both.

Also, FYI, the 1TB Samsung F3 is significantly louder than the 500GB, but it's also a bit faster. Still no Caviar Black. That's why I think the 500GB Samsung is the best deal out there right now for a balance of speed and low noise.

For a few bucks more than the WD Black you can have a "boot" SSD which will totally spank any spindle for application speed.

I ordered the 1TB along with a S1 rev2 without much reservation.
Then came the realization I would have been better served by the 1.5TB, seeing how I just store data (videos & music & images) for occasional viewing for the most part

$20 more for 500gb more data... oh well, done deal heh

The F3's do not and are pretty fast. I dunno about the Greens, I think they're fine now, its a storage drive so no its not going to be the fastest thing in the world.
Would the Ecogreen be good for a network data server, e.g. WHS on an Atom based mobo? It's where I'm going to store all the data I want accessible from all my various in-house computers. I want low power usage, but of course reasonably quick data access/writes.

WTH is going on with the linking? I'm unable to hit that link. What I see in my URL is this:

ehchtt...P://3xW.anrdoezrs.net/click-3332167-10687965?url=http%3a%2f%2fwww.ewiz.com%2fdetail.php%3fname%3dHD-15TBSA[/url]

Oh, crap, the parser is screwing up my quote. Shit, I guess I'll mosey on over to sliiiickdeeeels and see if I can find it there.

Don't see it, shit. I can't hit anrdoezrs.net

Any clue who the vendor is? I can't hit your links.
EWiz.com (using a site label of superbiiz!?).

I'm having no problem with any of the links -- in the past days or just now.

BTW: They noticed I placed two orders to this address and canceled one. My neighbor ordered one for me, fortunately. ^_^

It will be fine. Your network is going to be the bottleneck, not the drive.
