Samsung SyncMaster 215TW

I started this discussion in another thread a couple of days ago, but I have received some more advice recently and wanted to ask again.

I am interested in buying a large, widescreen LCD to use as an external monitor for a widescreen tablet PC, so I need the ability to rotate the monitor freely and quickly between landscape and portrait orientation to match whatever I'm doing on the tablet. I was originally interested in the 22" Samsung 226BW, but I was told that TN panels were unsuitable for portrait mode due to poor image quality in that orientation. I don't plan on doing much using the monitor/tablet besides school work and occasional gaming/movies/Photoshop (just as hobbies...not a professional here by any means). I looked at some of the top-ranked monitors in the LCD Buyer's Guide post, and I'm wondering what your thoughts on the 215TW are.

I've seen good reviews and it's ranked #4 in the multimedia/occasional gaming category, but I'm curious about the comment "However, this model reportedly has lots of input lag (like the 2407WFP). If you know you'd be sensitive to this, your best choice would be to avoid it." I'm guessing that just means that you'll notice a significant lag time between your actions and what appears on the screen. Any comments or first hand experience? If it's ranked decent for gaming, can the lag really be THAT bad?


At the moment, I'd say I'm definitely leaning most heavily towards the SyncMaster 215TW (big size, non-TN), but I will go to Best Buy and check them out firsthand before making any commitment.

In my area, these all dried up a few months ago. I am not sure if Samsung has released
or will release its successor. I have not found any credible info, but if I found a 215TW at
the right price, I would snag it.

I have been using a 215TW for a while now and I have absolutely loved it for every thing. I love how pictures come out on it, video and games. What really gets a lot of pictures are some good, professional-quality 1680x1050 background images of places that I use on my desktop often (some from webshots' 'pro shots' section, some from other places) because the color really jumps right out at them. I am thinking of getting an NEC MultiSync 20WMGX2 now, though, but only because I have other needs for this monitor (I could never sell this great screen). I've had good success with it in linux as well, which is a bonus for me. I have never seriously used the portrait mode, but I have tried it and it works well. I also, personally, have not noticed any input lag when I play games like BF 2142.
