Samsung UN55ES8000

Hi,
I am about to buy the Samsung UN55ES8000. I have pretty much read only positive things about it on the web, except for one review on CNET which said many Samsung TVs suffer from a flicker issue a few years in. I was wondering what you thought of this TV, and weather I should buy a 3 year square trade warrant for $129, or not to worry about it.

I'm sure it's a great set, though I don't have firsthand experience with it. You might also look at the F8500, which is very aggressively priced at the moment and offers even greater visual fidelity (being plasma rather than LED). The 51" F8500 is about the same price as that set. Personally I would get an extended warranty on either of these. FYI, you can get a 3-year add-on Squaretrade warranty (providing a total of four years of coverage) at Costco for $99.

I already ordered, so can't get F8500. Good to know about getting square trade from cosco, didn't know that, I will probably go pick one up. Thanks.

I have the PN59D8000, which is an older model, but I think in the same class. It had some issues with the screen in the beginning, but warranty replaced it right away. I have to say I still look at the picture just awestruck. I've never had anything with such high quality.

The only point I would like to make in this thread is how useless I think the smart features are. The 3D comes in very handy and I like that, but the other added bits for me are worthless. My blueray, Wii, and stereo all have netflix...which i don't use. I have used the TV's smart features once, maybe twice, but they never worked all that well. I would avoid making this part of the purchase criteria.

Yeah, I agree, all gimmicks.

I would say pick up the warranty. A lot of TVs fail because their internal components fail as opposed to the panel failing.
