vs
ViewSonic VX2025WM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824116381
witch one is better
here are a few cons i kno of
Samsung
- Top if darker and bottom is brighter due to viewing angle
- Little Ghosting
- Some colors arnt true, such as blue is a purpleish blue
Viewsonic
- Widescreen, older games are stretched
- Some backlight bleeding on black screens
- DVI is noted to go bad for certain video cards

if anyone owns either of these monitors please tell me how good it is, and tell me which one you guys think i should get.

I would easily get the VX2025WM. The 204B is actually pretty slow. The viewing angles are much better on the VX2025WM, and also the contrast.

i own the viewsonic. these are 2 different monitors. mostly depends on what you prefer. 4x3 square screen or 16.x10 widescreen. mostly based on preference but if you can't decide i own the viewsonic and for many things its great. i don't like that i can see the backlight on corners when watching dvd's (thats the only time i ever see complete black on the corners so its okay. it doesn't really interfere but i don't like it. owned a samsun monitor before this 914v analog. was great until i sold it to upgrade. have u considered the samsung 215?? i think i'd go with that

I second that. The contrast for the VX2025 is amazing. On my desktop I have an abstract picture that has A LOT of detail in certain areas. My 2007fpw didn't even show some of them when at the closest settings to the VX2025. Instead it just showed black over these thin blue lines that are really there and unnoticable until the VX2025.

On the con side to it, the backlight bleeding is worse than my 2005fpw. That and there is a little banding with mine (not like the 2007fpw's of mine, but still there). I'm going to exchange it though for a different one as soon as my store gets some more in.

EDIT:
i don't like that i can see the backlight on corners
Sounds exactly like mine. The corners are really the only place where there is bleeding. It has a white lights behind the screen though, unlike the Dells I have. They seem to have yellow ones behind them or something.

I personally didnt like the 204b in a huge way, it had a big issue with bleeding along the bottom of the screen and the viewing angles are horrible. I had it for almost a month then saw the 215tw come out and made the jump and i can say the difference between those 2 are night and day.

I would go with the Viewsonic. I played with both brands in my quest for a LCD that I could live with (I gave up) and the Samsung 215TW I used had such a delay that it would mess even with clicking on icons, I would over shoot them. Also the VS has a much sharper image over the $500 215TW.

You could do this. Go to bestbuy/Compusa and buy one (or both) of the screens and test it/them out for a day or two and see what you think. You really have to use a monitor to know if it will work for you, too many times I see people say "OMG THIS SCREEN IS THE BEST THING EVER" and then I would test it and think 'This looks like s***'.

No restocking fees for bestbuy and Compusa. Just don't get greedy and you will have no problem.

I'd had a 204B for a bit...for some reason, I just got TONS of tearing...my old Sony didn't get it, and my VX2025 doesn't get it (wha!?)...

Viewing angles - VERY good for the Viewsonic. I really didn't notice bad viewing anlges on the Samsung though, they had no effect for me.

Contrast - VERY good on the Viewsonic

Colors - very bland looking on the viewsonic, and they ship it with all colors at 100, so you really have to tweak it through your videocard (for me, turned the gamma down and digital vibrance up)

backlight bleeding isn't any worse than I have seen before. Both monitors had it about the same.

VX20205 - no vertical adjustment...the 204B does have that.

I did not percieve any ghost on the 204B, nor do I see any on the 2025.

banding- neither exhibited much in terms of banding.

DVI issues - I had tried my VX2025 at work (got it on the way to work, Office max had one left, no other store in my area had any) and tried it at work on my friend's comp with a ATI 9800....it didn't work, scared me...bring it home, plug it in, turn it on with my 7800 GT, works fine.

Overall, my videocard can handle 1680x1050 better than 1600x1200...so that combined with all other factors, the VX2025 is a keeper for me.

Here is a thread on the ard Forums on the VX2025...with a lot of pictures.

I have the 204B.

Don't get it unless it's for insanely dirt cheap.

Its viewing angles are a joke, so much so i can't even really enjoy it even though i use it only for games.

I have a VX2025WM and i find the backlighting issue is more of a glare thing , if u sit in middle at right viewing angle u dont get any light in the corners.

P-MVA panel vs TN panel. I think the 204B is also 6-bit? AND the viewsonic is cheaper (in Aus, anyway). My decision is made. Every LCD has it's problems, so backlight bleeding etc etc aren't too worrying.

You know now that you mention it, the back-lit corners do improve depending on the angle. Still, my Dell's don't need me to do that, and a monitor should look the best when you are staring straight at it.

Has anyone else replaced their VX2025 and had it be for the better? Mine has some minimal banding, and some backlight issues, but there is not one dead/stuck pixel on the screen. I'm wondering if I should keep this instead of trade it back in for another one that might have less luck.

I'm using my viewsonic on a 7800GT with DVI.

Works fine, didn't have to do anything special to make it work. Worked from the start. Looks awesome, no issues with it..

Another vote for the ViewSonic. My only issue is very very slight backlight bleeding, but nothing that bothers me.

Well - if you want to wait another week, I'm finishing up week 1 right about now...ask me in a week's time?

I think I saw somewhere the DVI issues are with ATI cards...not sure though?
