AFAIK this just configures the configuration of the on-board Intel SATA Controller and has nothing to do with the M.2 configuration. So I doubt, that your XP941 ever ran in "RAID" mode.

You can verify it by opening the "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" and "Storage Controllers" sections of the Device Manager and looking for the details of the listed SATA Controllers.

I emailed Asus prior to ordering all my parts, I asked if the XP941 could be used as a boot device on a maximus vii impact, this was their reply:

So long as the onboard controller is set to RAID mode.

Now, I also read that all the Z97 boards would support the XP941, so initially I just tried to install to it, I left everything default in BIOS ... the Windows 8.1 install saw the XP941 but would not install to it. After I made the change to RAID, it could. No idea why really, or what else that change could have effected, but it wouldn't install prior.

Can't you run an M.2 In AHCI mode and treat it as a normal SATA drive to boot from? I'm thinking of grabbing one.

I have a Maximus VII Hero, and have the XP941 mounted in a M2 to PCI-E adaptor card, and plugged into the x4 PCI-E slot. It is bootable with the latest bios (I am using it as my windows boot drive).

Note: You shouldn't use the built-in M2 slot since its limited to x2 PCI-E, and you'll be missing out on some of the XP941's awesomeness. Plus you can get a heatsink for the PCI-E card to keep the XP941 temps at more reasonable levels.

How are you using the disk though, in what 'method' ? I would assume in SATA emulation mode it would 'just work' surely with AHCI drivers?
What OS too?
EDIT: Also, the M.2 built in slot being slow, kinda sucks, isn't that the point of the slot? - what speed does it max out at?

The m.2 slot in the maximus vii impact is x4, not sure about the hero, so you get full speed on the xp941.

I did some research and posted in another thread, M.2 ain't ready for primetime, not at those heats.
I'll wait - also I specifically wanted a cheap simple $130 MATX Asus Z97 board, only comes with a piddly socket though, slow.

Anyone know which secure erase utility is safe to use on the XP941? My ASUS ROG motherboard has a built in secure erase utility in its UEFI, but even that I'm afraid to try on my XP941.

I wanted to comment on this. I have an XP941 256GB and got it booting to Win7 on an Asrock X99 Extreme4 and TRIM is working.

Additionally, the temps for the card are not hot at all. I ran crystal disk mark and the drive was cool to the touch. I don't know what people who are seeing super high temperatures are doing to hammer the thing but it seems with normal use it is quite cool.

I'm getting an infrared thermometer to make sure of what temps I'm getting.

I took a temp reading on my XP941 256GB card. 27.7°C That doesn't seem too hot at all to me. I really would be interested to know what exactly people are doing that they are seeing 80°C on this thing.

Try doing sustained large file transfers and take temp readings then. Honestly, I don't think you buy an M.2 drive for a storage drive.(Generally speaking)
