k, just got my new system up and running and this is what i have to report...
3700+ san diego w/ zalman 7700cu
2gb ocz el rev. 2 pc3200 (4x512)
msi k8n neo4 platinum (non sli)
x800xl
74gb raptor
seasonic s12 430w
lian li v1200 (BEST CASE EVER!!!)

ran cpu-z and its reporting my memory settings as 2-2-2-5... and those are with all default settings. so for anyone who was concerned about getting >2gb of ram, don't worry! side note: my mobo came with BIOS v1.3... the latest version MSI has on their site is 1.2.

cpu and system temps hover between 30 and 33 when idling and during average use... haven't put much of a load on it yet as im still installing things. ill run some benchmarks tmrw and then start my OCing.

i can't wait to get a game that will test my systems limits... need to find hl2 for ~$20 in FS/FT. Tribes1 just isn't gonna cut it (its still my favorite game of all time, just out dated grafix). k, going to bed so i can get up and play w/ my new toy some more

Neo4, eh... I threw mine back into the case today, the DFI + SD + Ballistix was starting to add up to a migraine. I even thought my RAID partition was a goner due to DFI's recent hatred of anything not TCCD/BH/UTT but the MSI found it again...

What the OP hasn't told everyone though, or hasn't realized, is he's running 2T the 1.3 BIOS defaults the command rate to 2T with SD and removes the option to change it from DRAM config... the 1.41 beta BIOS available at Rebels Haven corrects this issue.

I'm just running everything stock ATM, no CPU OC, 'Stix @ SPD (2-3-3-8) 1T on 2.8V. They were definitely good for 2-2-2 @ 200 with the Winnie, I'll test that out overnight and hope it's not only still doable, but also doable via 166 divider when I bring the CPU OC back up.

2T makes almost no difference though, so it doesn't matter.

Assuming you know the current tech of the winchester:

1. Uprated mem controller able to handle 4 DIMMS at DDR 400 (unlike previous winchester which was DDR333) but will retain a 2T command rate not 1T

2. uses strained silicon sSOI which produces better yeilds (being able to clock higher on the 90nm fab)

3. has 1Mb L2 cache which has lower latencies so performs better

4. SSE3

5. Consumes more power 'watts' although that is not a plus point

6. Doesn't require alot of volts to OC well, but more does help to OC higher all the same

there might be some more points but cant quite remember

Just out of curiosity, have any of you SDers noticed any difference in general usage performance at the same clock over Winchesters?
I've read up on the 'E' revision enhancements, and they apparently feature a better prefetch mechanism over the previous cores.

Explain or linky ... thanks

Excerpt from article:

Besides wider compatibility of the Venice?s memory controller, it also got noticeably faster. Among the tweaks implemented in Venice we should definitely point out enhanced hardware data prefetch and more write combining buffers (4 instead of 2).

I was wondering if there was actually a noticable performance increase, clock for clock over the previous cores, as the article suggests.

So, did it blow up? If not, I'd love to hear how the OCing is going. Can you push those four sticks of RAM a bit without leaving 2-2-2-x-2t?
