Anyone live around there. I might have the oppurtunity to move there for maybe 4 months or more. Ive been to CA when i was younger but it was San Fransisco. I understand housing is crazy expensive but if I lived 30 miles outside of san diego would other things like food, beer, and such be more expensive as well or can you live cheap there if you find the right places.

I've always heard that san Diego has the best weather.

Uhhh SD has the same food prices as anywhere else. You have your usual hole in the wall mexican places with most things under $6 and then you have your Morton's/Ruth Chris etc.

Well, 30 miles SOUTH of SD the food and cost of living is substantially lower. It's called Tijuana

(I live in San Diego, recently moved there after living in Los Angeles for the last six years)

I've been living here for 20+ years now. It will be hard without some roommates. Unless your job pay exceptionally well. Food prices arn't going to be much different. Gas is expensive out here though, coming in at $3.20/gal and up depending on where. Traffic is the only thing I hate about SD now. After about 2:30pm, the major North/South freeways become useless. (I-15 & I-5) Shortly thereafter, the East/West freeways all become jammed.

Housing is really inexpensive up in Temecula. That is about an hours drive from downtown SD with NO traffic. It will depend on where you're working for sure.

Housing in any big city in CA is expensive. Food is pretty much the same as anywhere else. You will save some bones living in lower class neighborhoods in SD.

After living in San Diego for 13 years, I thought gas couldn't get anymore expensive. I'm at college in San Luis Obispo (between LA and SF along the 101) and I just filled up at $3.42.

I am starting to love Central Cal, but I still plan on moving back to San Diego when I graduate. There's not much here job wise and housing is still very expensive.

yea, san diego county is consider a desert area. only rain a few times a year.

we dont check weather much, but this week is the same, all 70ish, sunny. If you need a change of weather, the ski lift is near by.

I would be moving to carisbad or somewhere near it.

Which is why it helps to live near where you work. I commute by bicycle a couple days a week because I live 10 miles from where I work.

You could also take the Coaster if you live in north county and work in San Diego. There are many shuttles running from the train stations to various companies. The train is also bike friendly.

Also, there is a new line going in called the Sprinter that runs from Oceanside to Escondido. Really though, we need better mass transit here. At least it's better here than Los Angeles.

I refuse to live in Temecula because of the commute. Half the people I work with live there and they all bitch and moan about the traffic and the price of gas yet none of them look into carpooling with coworkers.

I've been living in San Diego for 10 years now. I love it here.

If you are looking to buy a house let me know. My wife is a Realtor and she specializes in real estate in North County San Diego (where we live). She's sold a number of homes in this area and knows it very well.

I live in carlsbad for about 7 years. It can be cheap if u move inland but then u don't get the same weather. i can give u some info on special housing projects where u can get a place at a certain price if u can show u earn under a certain amount. pm me if you are interested. Those places cost about 300K I think. I don't know if there are restrictions on selling it, I think there are.

The weather would change that much from the west side of carisbad to the east side?

I would be looking to rent a cheap place, thanks for all the suggestions tho!

one thing I can address in response to OP, i find asian restuarants are more expensive around SD than in LA area: that IMO is a indicator of the higher cost of living

if i may also, add something perhaps not immediately relevant to your post -- san diego is beautiful

it's much nicer along the coast to the north, in the general area around Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar, etc. Cardiff is a bit lower down the scale but still OK.

That's a much nicer environment than in the city of San Diego.

Summer inland of SD will be hotter n' hell, unpleasant.

Is there a lot to do in san diego and carlsbad? I honestly don't know how big it is and stuff. I love going to concerts and living near Philly and NY allows me to see just about every tour that is going on in the US...are there a lot in the area?

I think there is a lot to do here. You have the entire coastline and you can swim in the ocean. A lot of concerts here if that is your thing. Plus you have OC and LA with a quick drive. Padres games are all fun to go to IMO. Chargers have their own stadium as well. Downtown SD and the gaslamp quarter. Pacific Beach if you like going to dive bars and clubs.

San Diego has great weather. Could you tell me your budget for housing? What are you looking for? Are you willing to live with roommates. Are you willing to drive in traffic?

I think responses to these questions may help you decide on where you want to live in SD. BTW if you are single, SD is very awesone.

Best

I am very single...are all the girls around there stuck up and such or are the people generally nice. I am not ugly but I dont have a six pack or anything.

I am looking to rent, roomates are fine...I don't really care about traffic really the major concern is a safe location.
