Okay, so going to SF for the weekend with the wifey... looking for a nice up/mid scale restaurant for one night.

We're staying in the north beach area, near Washington Square, so ideally in that area. We don't mind a long walk. I know there's a ton of places around there, but really too many for me to sort out from teh googling.

Not Chinese, we'll probably do that some other night. Needs to have some seafood or something kind of unusual for me, something on the mundane side for the wife, good atmosphere/service etc. Not interested in the "best" 5* place, hopefully something a bit more casual.

I dunno.
Went to San Fransisco once. Didnt like it. The island and the bridge were alright. But I went into a place to eat and couldn't make up my mind.
The big ol' flamer taking orders said "well, we have a scrumptious salad on special today, or were you thinking stheak?"
I have not enjoyed any meal with a male waiter since that day. Too creepy.

Sea Food?
Farallon or AQUA
Waterfront Restaurant and Cafe on pier 7 is VERY good. On the water with a bay view.

Heard good things about Ame but haven't had a chance to visit.

I have a ton of places just depends on what kind of money you want to spend and what kind of food you want.

hadn't thought about a view much, a lot of times places with a view are overpriced. But I looked at the website and it's not really that expensive, most entrees under 30, about at the upper end of what I'd like to spend. Any idea what market price on the dungeness crab might be? And it does look like a great view and place... hmm.

I've heard good things: http://www.pescesf.com/ Prices are very reasonable!

If you like rustic Italian, I can not recommend this place to enough people. Not walking distance so you'll have to grab a cab.

Check www.yelp.com for reviews.

Thanks. Rustic Italian is about the sort of thing I had in mind... flavorful and ethnic/different but not armandleg expensive. Google says it's 2.5 miles, not too far to walk, maybe get a cab back. I assume it's mostly safe walking?

Pesce looks really interesting to me (braised octopus!? hmmm...) but I'm not sure about the wife!.. probably some salmon would be okay.

If you wanna stay close to N. Beach, then you gotta try "The House". Rated one of the best restaurants in the city (27 rating in Zagat) at extremely competitive prices for such TASTY food!

Book ahead as this newish restaurant is getting really popular for its small space!

Careful with walking around SF at night especially if you're unfamiliar with the city. One moment you're in a nice part of town. Next thing you're in the ghetto.

I'd recommend a cab.

Take a cab to The Cliff House over Ocean Beach or Alioto's at the Wharf.

(Of course, there are only about a million great restaurants in San Francisco, so, reasonable people can disagree.)

If you go to Alioto's, skip desert and walk to the Original Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop at Ghirardelli Square for a Sundae.

Cliff House is definitely a great place to eat, however it isn't particularly focused on sea food.

Sea Salt in Berkeley is AMAZING and reasonably priced but that is a trip to Berkeley and it is not near BART(the light rail servicing the Bay Area)
