But otherwise, rent a car and go to the forest.
Muir Woods National Monument? :awe:

I was there Feb 2nd.. Not used to driving in a narrow curved/winding road to reach that place. Posted speed was 25mph IIRC, drove more like 15-20mph.
Spent about 3 hours just walking 2 1/2 miles. Entrance fee was $7.

Saw a phone booth near the entrance/restroom. It actually works (dial tone) !!!

Getting in very late on the 12th, heading back Tuesday (17th), afternoon. Definitely let me know, would for sure be up for grabbing a beer.

You around bro?

I think I will be...~3 weeks from now? I can make something work.

I also have a spacious closet at my place for, you know....

Platypus has to pay, though.

Hmm, intriguing. Can I bring a girl? :hmm:

you haven't been to tartine yet? O_O

It's entirely possible, but it does not look immediately familiar.

Ymmy food trucks

Take N line to GG park [Judah and 9'th and a five min walk] and /or keep going to last stop [ocean beach]

It is a great walk at the beach / sunsets

Like someone said , take a bike from fisherman wharf [or downtown] , there is one near embarcadero which is super cheap and bikes are great, go across GG bridge, then down to sausalito [beautiful expensive town] and then take boat back to either pier 29 or pier 1

Instead of going down PCH 1 , maybe a day at a bed and breakfast off mendocino, beautiful state forests with no crowds, rivers, the ocean, super romantic

I will add more as I think of stuff

I would recommend renting a car and making the ~4 hour drive up to Yosemite...but you're from Canada...and that place is all mountains and trees...so nothing different than where you live.

Excellent, thanks man! Forgot about food trucks; down for that. That bike trip is sounding better and better. May do it on the Monday or something so it will be less busy.

Heh, I never get sick of trees and mountains.

Always something going on in the city every weekend. Check out the free and cheap events here

Muir Woods IMO.

We hiked for about 4 hours through one of the longer loops. Beautiful views of the Pacific once you hike out of that valley. Then we had dinner at the Sand Dollar in Stinson Beach. Sleepy little beach town.

The Wharf, pier 44 (or whatever it was), was very touristy and cheesy IMO. We walked through Chinatown hitting random bars. That was fun. Honestly, I like walking through cities without a plan and just choosing random places to go.

I heard Alacatraz was a good.

I'm the same as you; prefer just wandering around, but I do want to have some things planned. Your Muir Woods trip sounds awesome; definitely into doing something like that.

I'm in. I can bring extra flowers if anyone needs some.

Awesome, I'll be there on the 14th. PM me your cell or some way to contact you and I'll hit you up. I'll be with some randos but I can dip out for a beer at least.

zinfamous, I swear I was going to tell you baby, don't go... come back, it's cold out there.

Same for you, hit me up I've got some time hopefully to catch up.

well, Muir Woods was the very first meeting place of the nascent UN (or was that the League of Nations? ...might have been the League of Nations)

...so, that kinda makes sense?

Hey--we have one of these over in Berkeley now. Would that make a Canuck feel more at home?

(just kidding--I've been there, and can only assume that it is considered low rent and gross to a Canadian)

The bike ride over the bridge is nice. My bike commute to work follows a chunk of the same route the bike rental places have the tourists use. Pic from yesterday:

It probably won't be that clear when you're there. Yesterday was particularly clear, which is why I bothered to take a (crappy) pic. The climb up to the bridge is the toughest part. There's one small climb before that, then you go downhill after the bridge to Sausalito.

If you visit the Exploratorium, be sure to reserve some time in the Tactile Dome. Crawling around a mazelike thing in pitch dark is really cool.
